Sacred Heart Altar Society Holds Meeting

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday March 2, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Members were asked to please bring outstanding dues up to date. Dues remain at $5 per year. Three cards of thanks were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Twenty ladies attended the meeting. The Spirituality Chair Marian Tajchman informed members that the Lenten Season is a time of Penance and Promise. During this month of March, we journey to the cross with our acts of penitence and reflect on our mortality (remember man thou art dust) and the shortness of life (and to dust thou shall return). Just like Our Lord’s earthly life, every moment of our lives is leading up to the last moment; we will either go to God in Heaven or suffer the fires of hell. Let us not tire of doing our good works and penance. May our Lenten observance be a joyful journey, not a forced march. In this month, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph (March 19) and the Solemnity of the Assumption (March 25). Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek invited members to volunteer to assist with the many tasks involved in getting everything in place for the Holy Week and Easter celebrations. Judy Langhamer spoke briefly about ordering flowers for Easter. An announcement will be in the church bulletin regarding donating toward Easter flowers for the Altar. It was reported that Peggy Sulik, Elaine Bodine, and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the donations made to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the month of February. Barbara Schellberg gave her report on a CEF enrollment sent to a member for an over 90 birthday during the month of February. Judy reported that one funeral lunch had been served during the previous month and presented the financial report for the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Marian Tajchman reported that Sacred Heart volunteers are scheduled for the week of March 24-30 at Second Chance.

It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. Under unfinished business, Judy Langhamer reported on the Deanery meeting held on February 3 in Brenham. The next meeting will be on April 28 at St. Mary’s in Ellinger. President Karen Janda reminded members that the Bakeless Bake Sale will continue through March. Donations may be given to Trish or put in the collection basket at church.

Under new business, discussion was held about the upcoming ADCCW Convention to be held in Round Rock on March 16-17. Donations will be accepted for the silent auction to be held at the Convention. Volunteers were taken for the positions needed for the Stations of the Cross to be led by the Altar Society members on March 20.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed.

President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, April 6, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
