Sacred Heart Altar Society Holds Meeting
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday March 4, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Members were asked to please bring outstanding dues up to date. Dues remain at $5 per year. One card of thanks was read to members and an oral thank you was heard in appreciation for remembrances received. Sixteen ladies attended the meeting.
The Spirituality Chair Marian Tajchman spoke to members about Lent not just being a time for penance, but also a time to reflect on God’s love for us. She also reminded everyone about the upcoming Holy Days of March culminating with the celebration of Easter on March 31. Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek invited members to volunteer to assist with the many tasks involved in getting everything in place for the Holy Week and Easter celebrations. Judy Langhamer spoke briefly about the flowers on order for Easter. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the donations made to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the previous month. Barbara Schellberg gave her report on CEF enrollments sent to a member for an over 90 birthday and to two members in memory of their deceased loved ones during the month of February. Judy reported that two funeral lunches had been served during the previous month and presented the financial report for the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Anna Boyd expressed her thanks to volunteers from Sacred Heart who helped out at Second Chance and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Karen Janda reported that one new member had been approved by Father Brian since the last meeting. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. The Rural Life Mass will be held this summer at St. Mary’s in Taylor.
Under unfinished business, an updated report was given on the monies collected for the bake-less bake sale fundraiser. Volunteers were taken for the positions needed for the Stations of the Cross to be led by the Altar Society members on March 15. Discussion was held about the upcoming Convention to be held in Round Rock on April 15-16. Donations will be accepted for the silent auction to be held at the Convention. Donated items can be brought to the April meeting.
Under new business, it was reported that the next ECCW Deanery meeting will be held in Rockdale at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on April 23. The Board meeting begins at 9:30 and the regular business meeting begins at 10 a.m. Please bring food donations if you are able to attend.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer, wished everyone a Blessed Lenten Season and a Happy Easter and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, April 1, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
