In the Feb. 24 edition, we published a story on the winners of the DAR Good Citizens Award. Kannyn Goehring was one of the winners but his bio information was mistakenly omitted. It is included here.

The Smith-McMillan Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution honored the school winners of the Good Citizens Award at the annual Presidents Day Tea on Sunday, February 19, 2023. The ceremony was held at the home of Jeanne Schilling in Fayetteville with parents and guests joining the members for this occasion.

Award winner Kannyn Kayne Goehring is the son of Blake and Christie Goehring. He is a senior at Round Top-Carmine High School. He will attend Texas A & M University to major in Kinesiology with aspirations to become a coach or athletic trainer.

His academic and club activities include Beta Club President grades 11 and 12; FFA President grades 11 and 12; Class President grades 9-12; Yearbook Editor grades 11 and 12; Youth Advisory Committee for Library grades 9-12; Regional qualifier for Number Sense; Model UN, Best Small School; All A Honor Roll grades 9-12; Mu Alpha Theta.

Kannyn’s athletic activities and awards include Baseball Academic All District; Basketball Academic All District; Baseball All District First Team; Basketball Academic All District Second Team; Blue Bell All State 1A Baseball Honorable Mention; Basketball MVP; Tennis Co-MVP; Golf Fighting Heart Award; Cross Country MVP.

Other awards and activities include Classroom Champion; Fayette County Commercial Heifer Show Halter Heifer Grand Champion; Patriots Pen winner; 2nd Place FFA LDE Radio Interview; 10th Place Individual Waller County Livestock Judging; played the French Horn in Band.

Kannyn expresses in his Good Citizens essay that “Many of the obstacles that America faces are self-inflicted and easily solved. This solution is for American citizens to take action and actually use the many attributes that everyone is capable of exhibiting. Whether it be through voting, community service, running for office, displaying patriotism, or just respecting others, American Citizens must display these qualities to achieve anything. I am sure this is possible and obtainable as I see these qualities in my community on a daily basis.”
