Registered voters in the Round Top-Carmine Independent School District will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition A in the Nov. 5 election.

If the vote passes, RT-C ISD will benefit by keeping 100 percent of the funds raised in the school district as they are not subject to the state’s recapture program. This past year, the school district sent almost $2.5 million back to the state.

Approval of the proposition would generate $178,000 to maintain facilities and for teacher and staff compensation this year, along with additional revenue annually.

The money immediately could be used to purchase much-needed new air conditioners at both campuses and to improve the septic system at the elementary campus.

If passed, the ad valorem tax rate for maintenances and operations of 69.99 cents per every $100 of assessed valuation in RT-C ISD would result in an increase of 2.8 percent in funding for the school.
