The Hermann Sons Life Christmas party was Sunday, Dec. 8 at the American Legion Hall near Round top. Social hour began at 11 a.m. A brief meeting began at 12 p.m. with President, Linda Mattocks, introducing Cecily D. Kelly, Vice President of Member Services, from the home office. She delivered words of wisdom and mentioned different plans for improvements for the camp and nursing home, followed by the pin presentation.

Members who earned their 50-year pin were Charles Mueller Jr, Dana Polasek, Gwen Stork, Jason Wagner, Jason Stork, Julie Leopold and Weldon Krause. 60-year pins went to Jeanne Eckermann Flinn, Jeffery Gau, Kathy Bishop, Larry Meinkowsky, Leo Hall and Valgene Ebner. A 70-year pin went to Debra Ann Kessler and Ronald Oeser. Mary Rauch, Treasurer, presented a preview of our past year’s projects. Rodney and Margaret Reed received our check for the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Dept.

Kristi Bauer of CASA spoke regarding the needs of children in foster care, most of whom are living with their grandparents. She explained how CASA staff will step up to check on children, even those living in different states, as well as for other situations, including court appearances. Volunteers are always needed. Members brought a table full of items for these children to use and enjoy.

Sara Barton was acknowledged for her gift of plants for our country store. She has been continuing this contribution which was started many years ago with Fritz and Alieen Finke.

Lastly on the agenda was the installation of officers by Cecily, thankful reminders, and prayers. Dinner was chicken fried pork or beef steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, rolls and tea or coffee. Members brought a table full of various delicious desserts.

The guessing games were won by Max Baranowski, Kitty O’Neil and Rodney Reed. The mystery packages were won by Virgie Hall and Betty Porter. The “rob your neighbor” game was very exciting and enjoyed by all. Next regular meeting will be Jan. 23, 2025.

Round Top Family Library 

If you’d like to be a part of the library’s 20th annual Chili Cook-Off on Jan. 19, now is the time to enter. Fill out the application online at ilovetoread.org, or pick up an application at the library.

New Year’s Eve Activities 

Round Top Rifle Hall’s annual NYE dance is coming up Tuesday, Dec. 31. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the dance starts at 8 p.m. Enjoy music by The Lost Cause Band, and free cornbread and black eyed peas at midnight. Tickets are $20 and are on sale now.

The Risky Liver Band will take the stage for Harmonie Hall’s annual NYE Dance. Doors open at 7 p.m., with dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight. Blackeyed peas served on your way out at midnight! Tickets are $20 at the door. Snacks are welcome as the kitchen will not be open. Please keep in mind no credit cards are accepted and there is no ATM on-site; cash only.

Festival Hill 

The annual New Year’s Day concert featuring Linda Paterson and Friends is set for Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets and information can be found at festivalhill.org.

Church News 

St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Warrenton holds a monthly Mass the first Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. The next Mass will be held Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 8 a.m. for the intentions left on the altar. More information can be found at stjohnfayetteville.com/st-martin.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church meets at 9:30 a.m. Christmas Eve service will be at 11 p.m. on Dec. 24.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby services are at 8 a.m. Christmas Eve service will be at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24.

Round Top Church meets at 8:45 a.m. for Bible Study, and the service is held at 10 a.m. Christmas Eve service will be held on Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

St. Cecilia holds service in Haw Creek Chapel at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. Christmas Eve services will be held on Dec. 24 at 2:45 and 4:45 p.m.

Celebrations
