Round Top-Carmine Elementary Hosting Free Dental Screening
A dental clinic with free dental screening and fluoride varnish will be held at the Round Top-Carmine Elementary School in Round Top on Aug. 2 from 1-4 p.m. It is sponsored by the Texas A& M School of Nursing and Texas A&M School of Dentistry.

RT-C Elementary Meet the Teacher will be held on Aug. 10 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the elementary school in Round Top.
The RT-C administrative offices will be open through Aug. 3 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Teachers will haves a workday on Aug. 7 and Aug. 15. Inservice days are Aug. 8-11 and Aug. 14. Students return for classes on Aug. 16.
Child Find – Development Screening for Preschool age children will be held on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Round Top-Carmine Elementary School in Round Top. Contact Kristi Hess at (979) 249-3200 for more information.
Wild Wild West Casino Night Mark your calendars for the “Wild Wild West Casino Night” on Saturday, Aug. 12, sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce. Dinner tables for eight are available for $500. Individual tickets are $50.
Contact (979) 451-1507 for choice of donation such as sponsoring a gaming table, donating items and gift certificates for gaming prizes, other costs and to reserve a table. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
Women of the ELCA
The Women of the ELCA Unit of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met July 13 with 10 members present – Colette Wunderlich, Carol Carmean, Dianna Gerland, Sedalia Ullrich, Leonita Sanders, Joann Ullrich, Diana Wunderlich, Joys Baird, Susan Ray and Nancy Eilers.
Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with a devotion on Faith and Trust. After calling the meeting to order, she was re-elected as president for the 2024-2025 term.
It was decided to donate $200 to the Sunday School, along with a thank-you card for their participation at the WELCA Banquet in both 2022 and 2023.
By vote, the group gave the Quilting ladies permission to use the funds that haves been designated for quilting, to buy supplies for quilts as needed.
Under Mission Community, a birthday party was held at Bec’s Blessing in Giddings to honor LaVerne Kunkel. The residents enjoyed singing lively songs. Refreshments of cake, sandwiches, cheese puffs and punch were served.
There have been no holy communion visits to nursing homes.
Funeral serving chairpersons meeting will be on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Under Mission Action, quilting continues monthly, and there are currently 62 quilts ready to pack, two ready to sew, and two ready to tack for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Shipment will be on Nov. 4. A quilt is ready for the Lutherhill Gala.
Eighteen baby care kits are packed. Two members plan to use their Thrivent Action cards. One will be for personal care kits and the other one for school backpacks.
For LWR shipping, it was decided to send $20 for truck shipping and a $100 donation to LWR.
AMEN in-gatherings were held in February and May.
LWR school kits will be collected in July and personal care kits in October.
Collection of cancelled postage stamps is coming to an end by the Warda Holy Cross stamp program and all stamps need to be turned in by Oct. 1, 2023. We will see if there are other options.
Under Mission Growth, the Salad supper was held June 7 with the theme, Butterflies and theme verse, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
The Thankoffering Service will be held Nov. 12. Ideas are needed for a program or speaker.
Turkey and dressing meal will be catered by Mantey Catering. Ticket prices will be $15 with to-go only serving from the Mission and Ministry Building. Cookies will be given with each meal Joys Baird and Nancy Eilers will prepare the 2024 yearbooks in October, which will be handed out in December.
Becky Dunham is in charge of the crosses in the Fellowship Hall as an ongoing project. Bold Women’s Day was observed at worship in February/ March.
Mother’s Day collection on May 7 brought in $86 and was sent to Lutheran Social Services of the South’s Upbring and designated to the girl’s home in Canyon Lake.
Western Cluster held their Spring Gathering on April 22 at St. Paul’s Shelby.
The 12th Triennial Convention is scheduled for Sept. 19-21, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Women of the ELCA Gathering, Just Love, follows on Sept. 21-24, 2023 in Phoenix.
No Brazos Cluster gatherings or the TX LA Gulf Coast Synod WELCA convention were scheduled.
The Rebekah Group meeting followed.
Rebekah Group Meets
The MLLC Rebekah Group met July 13 following the WELCA General Unit Meeting. Eleven members were present. They were Colette Wunderlich, Susan Ray, Carol Carmean, Dianna Gerland, Sedalia Ullrich, Leonita Sanders, Joann Ullrich, Diana Wunderlich, Joys Baird, Jocie Braun, and Nancy Eilers.
July birthday celebrant recognized was Susan Ray.
Dianna Gerland led the Bible study with the theme Salvation now; Session 2: Tangible salvation now; Christians as bringers of wellness.
The business meeting was called to order by Susan Ray, President.
Minutes and treasurer’s report of the previous meeting were approved as read.
Diana Wunderlich will put out a basket for school supplies, which we are collecting during July.
Quilts for Lutheran World Relief will be packed on July 27 at 2 p.m. in the Mission and Ministry Building.
The following officers were elected by acclamation for the 2024-2025 term: Joann Ullrich, Vice-President; Nancy Eilers, Secretary; Dianna Gerland, Treasurer; Sedalia Ullrich, Mission Community; and Joys Baird, Mission Growth.
Joann Ullrich gave the offering meditation.
The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.
Hostesses were Colette Wunderlich and Nancy Eilers.
Bingo for Seniors
Bingo for Seniors (60 and older, plus guests) is held at the Ledbetter Community Center on the second Sunday of the month. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks, and drinks are available for a freewill donation. This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment. The next date is Aug. 13.
Burn Ban
A burn ban has been recently put in effect for Fayette County due to the dry weather conditions. Please don’t jeopardise your property or anyone else’s by starting a fire.
Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein The Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, also known as the Carmine Hall, will be conducting a monthly gun and gift card drawing on the third Tuesday of each month from September 2023 through August 2024.
Three tickets will be drawn each month-2 for guns and 1 for a $500 gift card. JW’s Steakhouse is underwriting one of the $500 gift cards. Round Top Real Estate will also give one of the $500 gift cards.
They are working to raise some funds for maintenance and future major renovation of the historic dance hall. Tickets are $100 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. Winning tickets each month will be placed back in for future drawings. You must be 18 or older to win a long gun and 21 or older to win a pistol.
All winners must be in compliance with Federal Firearms Regulations. In the event all tickets are not sold, Carmine Hall reserves the right to return all monies collected.
