Several members of the Round Top-Carmine Class of 1961 gathered recently to celebrate their collective 80th birthdays, as each of them have had or will have their 80th birthdays this year.

Carmine Lions Club

The Carmine Lions Club met Aug. 8, at the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department Annex. The new District Governor Jane Istre was the guest speaker.

Club officers for the 20232024 year are: President, Ricky Weyand; 1st Vice President, Marlene Waak; 2nd Vice President, Lisa Mayer; 3rd Vice President, Donna Mueller; Secretary/Treasurer, Marie Loewe; Tail Twister, Glenn Treude; Directors, Sonny Marth, Alvis Mueller and Diane Wied; Membership Chair, Ronnie Eckert; Club Administrator, Claire Mayer Zapalac; and Past President, Jimmy Loewe.

Used eye glasses, plastic lids and metal can pull tabs are still being collected.

Blood Drive

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will have a Blood Drive next Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The blood drive is in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.

RT-C School News

RT-C varsity volleyball team participated in the Columbus tournament Aug. 10 to 12. On Thursday, they beat Industrial in three sets and Cypress Christian in two sets. They lost to Sealy in three sets.

In Friday’s matches, they lost to Schulenburg in three sets, defeated Divine in three

On Saturday, they lost to Sealy in three sets and beat Devine in three sets. They placed 3rd in the Silver Bracket and were the only 1Aschool in this tournament.

On Aug. 15, varsity and JV were to have hosted three games with their opponents being Weimar and Navasota.

The varsity team will participate in the Schulenburg tournament on Aug. 17, 18, and 19.

On Aug. 22, JV and varsity play at Weimar with the first game at 5 p.m.

School pictures will be taken on Aug. 24.

There is an early release on Aug. 25.

Carmine VFD

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting and drill is Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. A burn ban is in effect for Fayette County. No burning, please.

The department reminds citizens to place house numbers where they can be easily spotted in case of an emergency both during the night and daytime.

Heritage Committee

The Heritage Committee of the Carmine Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. in the museum.

The topic for discussion will be “Egg Production and Sales in the Carmine Area.” Resource persons will be available to give information and to answer questions.

All are welcome to come share and learn.

MLLC Women of the ELCA

The Women of the ELCA of Martin Luther Lutheran Church are collecting items for school kits to be sent to Lutheran World Relief. There are enough pencils.

Needed are 70-page spiral notebooks, blunt scissors, 30-centimeter ruler with inches on one side, pencil sharpeners, ballpoint pens (no gel ink), 2.5-inch erasers, and boxes of 16-24 crayons.

Rebekah Group Meets

The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Aug. 10 with seven members present. They were Sedalia Ullrich, Diana Wunderlich, Barbara Jacob, Joann Ullrich, Joys Baird, Susan Ray, and Nancy Eilers.

The Bible study was led by Susan Ray with the theme Salvation Now; Session 3: A World Wanting Wellness.

The business meeting was called to order by Susan Ray, President.

Quilting will be Monday, Aug. 14 for Lutheran World Relief. Sixty-four quilts have now been packed for LWR and more are being made. Items for school kits are still being collected.

Nursing home birthday parties were discussed.

Chairpersons of funeralserving groups will have a meeting on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. to update the yearbook.

August birthday celebrant was Joann Ullrich.

Sedalia Ullrich gave the offering meditation.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.

Hostesses were Barbara Jacob and Joann Ullrich.

MLLC News

Chairpersons of Funeral Serving Groups will meet Thursday, August 24 at 6 p.m. to discuss the groups and see if any changes need to be made.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost is at 10 a.m. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

The Blood Drive is from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Men in Mission meet Monday at 6 p.m.

Meals on Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and is for pick-up only until 11:30 a.m. There are 5 meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

Visitors’ Center

Beginning in August, the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot will be open only on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Recycling Trailer

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Birthdays
