Rides, Info Offered About Austin Event Focused on the State Tax Amendments
As you probably know, we have a Texas constitutional amendment election coming up on November 7. Turnout for these elections is usually pretty low, and no wonder. Most of the propositions usually don’t affect us directly, and even if they do, their wording is often technical and hard to understand.
On this ballot, however, propositions 2, 3 and 4 involve taxes, and could have a significant financial impact on many of us. We should make sure we are well informed about them before voting.
There is an event in Austin on Sunday, October 15 at 1:30 to help voters understand these propositions, and there will be opportunities to ask questions. The panelists who will be explaining these propositions are: Michael Granof, Professor Emeritus, UT Austin Mc-Combs School of Business; Vikki Goodwin, Texas House District 47; Dorothy Marchand, VP Voter Education, League of Women Voters Texas; and David Thomason, Director, The Civics Lab at St. Edward’s University. The event is hosted by two organizations: Braver Angels of Central Texas, an organization made up of committed reds and blues working on bridging the partisan divide in our country, and the Austin Area League of Women Voters.
For more information about the event, check out the events page on braverangelscentraltexas. org. And if you need a ride, or would like to share a ride with someone to the event, contact Arnold at faromberg@gmail.com or 512-422-0149, or email Connie at cshortes@braverangels.org.
Since these three amendments may affect each one of us directly, each of us should become well informed about them before voting and then be sure to vote as we see fit. The program will be very informative and will clarify the effect each amendment will have if passed.
