Retired Teachers Meet, Officers Installed
The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, June 10, at Robert’s Steakhouse in Flatonia, with 18 members and two guests in attendance. Guests were Gene Stokes, past District 13 President, and Joe Ramirez, present District 13 President. Luncheon (selfpay) was at 11:30 a.m., and the business meeting started at 1:30 p.m.
The program was the Installation of the 2024-2025 Chapter Officers, and Recognition of Committee Chairs. The installation was done by Joe Ramirez, who gave each officer a token of recognition to help with their future duties. Christine Morrison, Treasurer, was given a lotto scratch-off ticket for possible defraying of finances; Esther Hartman, Secretary, was given a post-it notepad and pencil for helping with notetaking; Marian Tajchman, 2nd Vice-President (absent/ excused) received a sign that read, “Blame the two people before me;” Peggy Halamicek and Terri Wagner Co-First Vice-Presidents in charge of membership and community volunteer involvement, were given a sign to show the president when asked questions, to answer “Absolutely!”; Lisa Slinkard, President, with duties that involve many decisions, was given a quarter to flip for answers; Melanie Mica, District 13 Vice-President, to help with her many decisions, was given a bag of marbles to replace the ones that may be lost.
The Business meeting then began with the approval of May minutes as presented; Chris Morrison gave the Treasurer’s report; no committee reports.
The 2023-2024 Fayette County officers and Committee Chairs were recognized with the presentation of certificates.
These were the following: Co-First Vice-Presidents Kathy Migl and Debbie Morrill; Secretary Karen Fitch; 2nd Vice-President Melanie Mica; Community Service Chair Joan Miertschin; Healthy Living Chair Kathy Koch; Information and Protective Services Kim Joost; Historian Jeanne Wetjen. Also recognized for having the most community service hours (2,000+) Donna Burton.
There was no raffle item; the Retention Member (local dues paid) drawing was won by Lisa Slinkard.
The next meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 9, at New Life Methodist Church, 1215 Von Minden, in La Grange. Social time will be 1:30 p.m., meeting at 2 p.m. All retired public school personnel are invited, even if from another city, county, or state.
