Retired Teachers Meet, Election of Officers Held

The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association met on Monday, April 10, at the La Grange First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The fellowship time was hosted by Kathy Migl, Jeanne Wetjen, Debbie Morrill. The raffle item (to benefit the Childrens’Book Project) was given by Marian Tjachman.

The business portion of the meeting included: A request for a member to help with the Fayette County Facebook page; approval of the January minutes; report from the Interim Treasurer, Chris Morrison; reports from the following committee chairs: Legislation Karen Fitch reminded all of the recent mailing, “TRTA Info Sheet for April 12. Wear Red!!!”, and received a head count (8) of all who were planning on attending the “Day at the Capitol” (April 12). Details of the day were discussed. Healthy Living Kathy Koch distributed the March District 13 Healthy Living News. It included information on a Gluten-free diet, and extensive information on heart disease and heart disease symptoms. Children’s Book Project Melanie Mica reported that 343 books were donated to CASA for youth of Fayette County; books were for ages 6 months to the 6th grade.

Election of officers proceeded; after discussion, a motion was made by Melanie Mica, 2nd by Joan Miertschin, to accept the slate of Lisa Slinkard (President) and Chris Morrison (Treasurer) by acclamation. Passed unanimously. President Slinkard introduced Christine Heinrich, AMBA representative; Christine said that she would be present for the remainder of the meeting to answer questions and provide information.

Members were reminded of the following upcoming dates: April 12: Day at the Capitol May 8: Fellowship Gathering: Recipe Swap and Testing May 11: District 13 Spring Conference June 12: Awards and Officer Installation.

Drawings were held: The “Retention Member” was won by Kim Joost; Book Project was won by Kathy Koch, and an additional prize was won by Debbie Morrill. The remainder of the meeting consisted of games of Bunco.
