Retired Teachers Attend District 13 Spring Conference
The District 13 Retired Teachers’ Association Spring Conference was held on May 11, at the Plum Creek Events Center in Kyle, with 85 in attendance, including six from Fayette County. Fourteen units (counties) of retired teachers comprise District 13.
A presentation was given by Larry Yawn, State Legislative Chair. He said that Senate Bill 10 was in conference at that time, along with Senate Bill 30. Both of these bills deal with a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and a supplemental payment to retired teachers. He encouraged all present to continue to communicate with their legislators by showing support for their work and thanking them for listening to the retired teachers.
The group then broke up into sessions for learning about leadership, membership, communication, secretary duties, the TRTA Portal, member benefits, retirement education, and volunteer services. The day was punctuated with games of trivia, enjoyed by all present, and with a beef and chicken fajita luncheon.
