Last Wednesday, August 31, Andy Behlen and his wife Janessa traveled to Texas City and Galveston to watch the Battleship Texas make an historic journey from its berth at San Jacinto to a dry dock in Galveston for repairs. It was the first time the old battleship left her berth since the 1980s. USS Texas is the last surviving battleship that fought in both World Wars. She participated in the Normandy Invasion. When Allied troops pushed past the range of her main guns in France, Texas sailed to the other side of the world and assisted with the invasion of Okinawa, Japan. The Behlens watch a flotilla of tugs pulls the ship past the Texas City Dike last Wednesday (pictured left). They joined thousands of spectators who also came to watch the historic occasion. The Behlens then traveled to Galveston for lunch at Katie’s Seafood on Pier 19, where they got an even better view watching the tugs pull Texas to her temporary home at the Gulf Coast Copper Docks (pictured below) where she will undergo extensive repairs.
