Quilted Throws Presented to CASA

  • Martin Luther Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA Quilting Group presented fleece quilted throws to CASA of Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee Counties for their use. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) improve the lives of children who experience child abuse and neglect in these counties. They train these advocates to support children and families involved in the child welfare system. Round Top-Carmine high school baseball team was to have played in the Regional Finals in a best of three series on May 22 and possibly May 24 at Fireman’s Park in Brenham with Fayetteville as the opponent.

RT-C defeated Spurger in two games in the Regional Semi-final game on May 16 at Willis High School. Congratulations.

High School graduation and eighth grade promotion took place Friday, May 23, at Round Top Festival Institute at 7 p.m.

Carmine Cemetery Association Carmine Cemetery Association will be increasing the cost of burial plots due to inflation, insurance, and higher cost of lawn care and maintenance. Lots still available in sections C, B, and A may be purchased until June 1 for $400. After that date, graves bought in available sections will be $500 per lot.

Trash Pick-up Schedule There is a change to the pick-up of trash during Memorial Day week only. It will be picked up on Wednesday, May 28, instead of Tuesday.

Carmine Lions Club 

The Carmine Lions Club will have its June meeting a week earlier. It will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at Windmill Ranch Lodge, 1403 W Hwy 290, Carmine, beginning at 6 p.m.

This meeting will include installation of the 2025-2026 officers. A baked potato meal will be served.

Bingo at Carmine Hall 

The date for the next Bingo at the Carmine Hall has been moved to Friday, May 30. Doors open at 4 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. Twelve regular games and two cover games are played. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

WELCA Salad Supper 

The Women of the ELCA of Martin Luther Lutheran Church will sponsor its annual Salad Supper and Program on June 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall with the theme “Let Freedom Ring.”

Jane Press will give a presentation on “The Flag.” Come early to gather and visit.

Rebekah Group 

The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met on May 8 with five members present. They were Diana Wunderlich, Joys Baird, Joann Ullrich, Sedalia Ullrich, and Dianna Gerland.

The Bible study was led by Joann Ullrich with group participation. The study was a devotional with the theme, “Receiving the Spirit’s Flame.”

The business meeting was called to order by Vice-president, Joann Ullrich.

The quilting group will meet on May 12.

Donations of non-perishable food and monetary gifts for AMEN are being collected during May. This is the food pantry in La Grange.

The Mother’s Day offering for Upbring children will continue to be collected all during May.

A birthday party has been scheduled at Jefferson Place on June 20 beginning at 2:30 p.m. That day is the birthday of Joyce Fuchs.

Election of officers will be held in June.

Fabric Kits were mentioned and will be discussed at the July WELCA meeting, thinking about discontinuing the kits for Lutheran World Relief in 2026.

Jenell Jaster’s birthday in May was recognized.

The group recited the Lord’s Prayer and sang the table prayer, followed by a delicious lunch served by Joys Baird and Sedalia Ullrich.

Joys Baird gave the offering meditation, based on Luke 9:17, Jesus feeding the crowd with fives loaves of bread and two fish.

Flag Disposal 

If anyone has worn or unserviceable United States or Texas flags to dispose of, the Carmine Chamber of Commerce has bins available for drop off at The Village Market, Carmine Post Office, and Museum/Depot on Sylvan Street.

Every October, the Chamber hosts Carmine Night Out, where the Quade-Werchan Post 338 American Legion members conduct a flag retirement ceremony.

Carmine VFD 

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department meets June 12 for drill night at 6 p.m.

Mark your calendars for July 20 when the Firemen’s Feast and Fundraiser will be held. A fried chicken meal will be served as drive-through only. There will also be a drawing.

MLLC News 

Senior Citizens meal pick-up and domino party is Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Mission and Ministry Building.

AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion observing the Ascension of Our Lord is Sunday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Bonnie Parker will serve as the guest pastor.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action is on Wednesdays at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. Five meals come in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread for a donation of $10. This makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
