Preserving Your Family History Workshop July 14
Are you interested in learning more about your family history? Why should you make the effort? Do you need ideas for how to best store or share family photos and documents?
The staff of the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives, along with documentary and lifestyle photographer April M. Frazier, invite you to a free twohour workshop on Thursday, July 14 to learn easy ways to research, collect, organize and preserve your family history. Come join us from 4 to 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Fayette Public Library at 855 South Jefferson Street in La Grange.
April M. Frazier created “Frame of Reference,” an exhibit on display this summer in the Museum and Archives, which shows the photographic and archival results of her own search for her family’s history. April will share what she has learned by discussing her process for retracing her African-American roots, beginning in the Muldoon area of Fayette County in the 1800s. Along the way, she learned of family triumphs and traditions and strengthened her own connectedness to her family.
April believes a family archive is a great way to share your family’s rich history with others. This presentation will cover some of the resources available in the local Museum and Archives, as well as tips from April on how to digitize old photographs and documents in your collection. She invites you to bring some of your cherished photos and memorabilia to share.
It is her hope that the workshop and exhibit will help others realize the worth and importance in recording their own family histories.
