The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum (PLCTM) opened in La Grange in 2006 as the ultimate polka fan’s tribute to the music and dance that continues to rock our state, nation and world. The museum features memorabilia, donor recognitions, photo displays, videos, instruments, and an extensive library of music and records dating back to the early 1900s. The PLCTM is located at 275 West Fairgrounds Road, La Grange, TX 78945 within the Fayette County Fairgrounds in the Czech Village of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC).

Upon emergence from the COVID period, since March of 2022, much has been done to restore the beauty of the exterior buildings, upgraded technology, creation of a new website PLCTM.com; and, adding painted murals for marketing, promotion and beautification. The murals have a drive-by appeal drawing positive attention from “Ho Hum” to “WOW, there is a museum in those white buildings.”

Ricardo Morales Hendry, a versatile artist from Houston is commissioned to provide the hand painted mural drawings. He is known for his hand painted (Not Digital) artwork making wonderful gifts for any occasion that become family heirlooms to be enjoyed and cherished through the years. These works are masterfully executed in oil paint on canvas, usually in standard sizes to facilitate framing but can also be done in custom sizes. Willie and Joyce Bohuslav, Founders of the PLCTM, are replicated as the dancers on the murals.

Creating a facility that is inviting and interesting for people to view relics of polka music and dance has been the focus since March of last year. As the Museum progressively moves forward, the officers are meeting this week to discuss events for 2023. A public grand opening and ribbon cutting will be held in the near future.

The PLCTM has a long history of preserving, promoting and educating Polka Music and Dance; not only in the region, the state, but also to the world. Officers are focused on providing leadership, donations and tools to create awesome, innovative and creative ideas of Preserving, Promoting and Educating the entire world on not only the history of, but the ongoing energy, outrageous fun and joy of Polka Music and Dance.

The organization expresses deep appreciation to the City of La Grange for a 2022 Tourism Grant and the following we tribute for matching funds: The Leland and Alice Anna (Jurca) Schroeder Family, The Henry and Esther Hoelscher Family, Weldon and Delores Schulte, members of the PLCTM and generous memorials honoring friends and family.
