Pitman Cementery Memorial Service Held;Hatfield Marries Machicek
The Pitman Cemetery Association held their annual Memorial Day service on Sunday, May 7. Pastor Tim Rowell of Flatonia Baptist Church brought the message to a slim crowd. Those who were there enjoyed music played by Mae Lynn Beck, led by Martin Cherry Jr.
It was a cloudy day, but the temperatures were mild and all who attended enjoyed walking through the cemetery recalling those who had passed on. The flowers were beautiful and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. Many getting to catch up with family and friends they had not seen in a long time.
Hatfield Wedding
Former Muldoon resident Daniel Hatfield wed Erika Machicek on April 29 in High Hill. Daniel lived in Muldoon for several years in the Jacobs little yellow house and is close friends with Karen Jacobs. Daniel works for Smith Power Line Construction and Erika works for Tomavik, LLC.
Daniel and Erika were married in High Hill at The Oaks venue. They enjoyed a honeymoon vacation in Hawaii before returning and settling into their home in Schulenburg. Hogs
There have been multiple hogs hit on both FM 154 and FM 2237. All the animals were of sizes to cause major damage to vehicles. It looked like all the hogs were black and that makes them really hard to see, especially at night. One of the groups was made of six hogs. There also have been single black hogs hit too. I counted four different locations of dead hogs in the area in just a week time with two of them being large groups of hogs. Please take caution while driving.
Weather
The weather in Muldoon has been wild this past week. On Monday a strong storm blew in with strong winds, heavy rain and quarter size hail. Just less than two inches of rain fell in under an hour. The large rain drops were peppered with some quarter size hail. Those who were out and about had to seek shelter under any tree cover they could find. It was a fast moving storm that came with lots of power. The weather service even had a tornado alert out for the area.
Rain has continued to fall throughout the week. The ground is saturated; the tanks full and the creeks are running. This can cause some issues for the ranchers and their stock. The stronger currents have been known to wash out fences and sweep away cattle. The saturated ground also causes issues with vehicles getting stuck. This is a good way to start off the summer with a full supply of water.
Out and About
Agroup of Muldoon ladies took a road trip recently to the Houston area to meet a friend for lunch. Pam Sheffield, De-Layne McCullough, and Pam Knotts spent the ride catching up on family news and sharing neighborhood news. They picked up Anne Wright on the way to Town Lake where they had lunch lakeside at Union Station Restaurant. The lunch items were delicious and compliments were sent to the chef. After lunch the ladies strolled through some of the shops before returning Anne to her townhouse. The Muldoon ladies had good luck with traffic and arrived home safely already planning the next lunch adventure.
