Pioneer Unit of Herb Society of America Meets in Burton
In May, the Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America held its first ever evening meeting. Members met at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton where Pioneer Unit member Diana Sellers presented “A Study in Lavender, an Overview.” Diana outlined cultivation requirements of the plant and talked about the history and folklore associated with lavender. There were drinks and treats that featured lavender.
The June meeting of the Pioneer Unit will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Brenham Presbyterian Church. Linda Rowlett, a member of the Unit, will present a program titled “Emily Dickinson: The Poet as Gardener and Cook.” Linda will discuss the plants that Dickinson cultivated in her garden in Amherst, Massachusetts, and she will show slides of the Dickinson residence and gardens. Linda will also talk about the recipes that Dickinson favored and share some of the treats Dickinson liked to make, prepared using updated versions of Dickinson’s recipes.
The program will be followed by the annual business meeting of the Pioneer Unit and a potluck luncheon.All interested persons are invited to attend.
