Pair of Free Programs Set to Resume at Arts for Rural Texas
Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) is committed to providing art experiences for both children and adults of central Texas. Two of the organizations programs, Art After School and Open Studio, are set to resume this August.
ARTS’ Art After School program introduces children to various forms of art while encouraging creative thinking in a fun and safe environment. Taught by local artists, musicians, and educators, classes are designed to build self confidence while contributing to artistic skills, better academic performance, and critical thinking. Children can explore many different art styles and subjects, such as painting, drawing, photography, quilting, sculpture, music, and much more.
The program is open to public, private, and homeschooled students grades 1 – 12. Art After School is held weekly during the school year in the following locations: Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, La Grange, Round Top-Carmine, Schulenburg, Sheridan, Waelder, and Weimar. No registration fee is required; classes are always free, so that every child has an opportunity to explore art.
Art After School registration will open Friday, Aug. 2. The program is very popular, so early registration is advised. Please visit www.artsforruraltexas. org/artafterschool to view a full list of classes and to register. Open Studio
ARTS’ Open Studio is the perfect opportunity for both seasoned professionals and those just beginning their creative journey. Connect with fellow creators, enjoy the freedom to work on projects in a supportive and inspiring environment, and exchange constructive critiques with artistic colleagues.
Open Studio is held every Friday in the Schmid ARTS Annex in Fayetteville from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Artists of all media, ages, and skill levels are welcome to attend.
“We have an incredible group of artists who join us each week,” says Allyson Hoffmann, who oversees the studio. “At ARTS, we not only foster art experiences for youth, but also support professional and aspiring artists of the region. Open Studio has been a great way to give these talented men and women the opportunity to create and collaborate. It has been truly inspiring to witness their friendships and artistic skills evolve.”
Margaret Atkins, a regular participant, shares her experience: “Open Studio has been wonderful. At first, I was very apprehensive about attending. I felt I wasn’t ‘good enough,’ but I decided to go anyway, and I’m so glad I did. It’s great being around like-minded people that show their support and share their knowledge. All this encourages me to paint every day. I really look forward to each Friday, and those few hours pass too quickly.”
Open Studio sessions will resume on Friday, Aug. 2. Spaces are limited. Please visit www.artsforruraltexas.org/ openstudio to reserve your spot.
