Ever look out your car window at a Schulenburg sunrise and think “I should take a picture of that…” or “…our farm is really beautiful”? Professional artists from near and far will be in Schulenburg to compete in the Have You Painted Yet? Competition from November 29 through December 2 will be painting the charms of Schulenburg and the surrounding areas. Chances are, these artists will like the same scenes you like.

The Schulenburg Chamber and Union Pacific Railroad are sponsoring this fourday competition which will paint Schulenburg and the surrounding area in their best light. Each artist will search out attractive landmarks to paint from anywhere in a 20-mile radius of downtown Schulenburg – your home or your favorite scene could be one of them. The resulting art show, The Have You Painted Yet Exhibit, will be displayed at Senglemann’s Hall from 4:15 p.m., December 2 through December 23. Viewing will be during nor-mal hours of operations for Senglemann’s Hall or by appointment through Amanda Danning.

Some of the artists who will be competing are Richie Vios, Sue Pape, Kevin Richert and Arthur Deatly.

You will be able to meet these and the other artists during the week if you see them on the side of the road or in other public sites – look for the bright yellow Watch Me Paint signs. Most Plein Air artists welcome you to stop and talk to them and watch the progress of art in action. The artists, even if they are local, welcome suggestions on interesting things to paint from the local perspective. Most of the artists participating do just this type of competition for a living and are accustomed to and enjoy the interaction.

Don’t miss the Quick Draw portion of the competition – Saturday morning from 9-11:30 a.m. artists will be painting scenes from downtown Schulenburg. You will be able to find them within a few blocks of the Chamber of Commerce and the resulting paintings will be judged and displayed at Senglemann’s Hall. The winners will be announced at 3:45 p.m. and the exhibit will be open to the public at 4:15 p.m.

Want to be a VIP? VIP’s will be able to see the exhibit, meet the artists and speak with the judge, Karen Vernon before the general public. Becoming a VIP is easier than you think. Become a Site Host or volunteer to help with hanging the art – there are several ways to help and get to be one of the first to see this home-grown art show.

Do you have any favorite scenes around Schulenburg you would like to see painted? There are several ways you can help with this competition even if it is just telling us where to go … paint.
