    One Square Mile Music Fest This Weekend in Round Top

Come out to Round Top this weekend for the 2nd annual “One Square Mile Music Fest.” The party is in fullswing over at the Round Top Dance Hall, located at The Sone Cellar. Friday, April 19 features Cactus Thief at 6:30 p.m., Annie Bosko at 8:30 p.m., and Jack Ingram at 10 p.m. Saturday’s lineup includes Diedre Thornell at Noon, Alex Lambert at 2 p.m., Teddy Thompson at 4 p.m., Joy Clark at 6:30 p.m., and Rodney Crowell at 8 p.m. The event will close-out with “Soul Sunday” featuring the McCrary Sisters at 1:30 p.m. There are a variety of ticket packages available at eventbrite. com.

Round Top Family Library Online registration for the Round Top Family Library’s summer S.E.E. program is now open. Kids SEE activities are free and a great opportunity to have fun, make new friends and bridge the summer learning gap. Science, cooking, arts and gardening, theater, taekwondo, chess and teen art. This Sunday, April 21, “Author! Author!” presents Babette Fraser Hale. Come to the library for a launch-week discussion of “This Familiar Heart: An Improbable Love Story,” by our own awardwinning local author, Babette Fraser Hale. Published this month, it tells the surprising “second chances” story of finding love with her partner and husband Leon Hale, renowned Texas columnist and novelist; and her complicated journey of grief following his death in 2021. This free event will be from 2-4 p.m. Stay for refreshments afterwards.

Winedale 

The next Winedale Online Talk: “All Trails Led to Houston” will be Tuesday, May 14. Photographer, and author Ray Viator, will talk about the riders, horses, wagons, and western traditions celebrated each day of the trail rides that lead to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The students are busy toward the end of the month with state STARR testing. Once this month is over, May will be filled with banquets honoring and celebrating the accomplishments of the students over this past school year.

The final day of school is just a few weeks away on May 23. Mark your calendars for graduation, which will be held on May 24.

Janssen’s annual fundraiser – “Off to the Races!” Saturday, May 4 a Derby Day Brunch inspired by Due Market Hill will be full of live music, a live and silent auction, hat contest, winning horse raffle, Derby Day cocktails, Whiskey Wall, golden ticket jewelry raffle and more. Round Top Rifle Hall 

The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Hamburger Social takes place the first, second, and third Mondays of each month, the Hall is open from 5:30-8 p.m. for hamburgers, “The Rooster,” hotdogs, or chilidogs, along with fries or onion rings. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the Round Top Rifle Association.

Festival Hill 

Friday, April 19-Sunday, April 21 is the 22nd Annual Poetry at Round Top. This festival of readings, workshops and fellowship will include numerous different poets. For tickets and meal information visit festivalhill.org. Church News

St. Cecilia’s presents “The Spirit of Willie Nelson” Sunday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Round Top Dance Hall. Come worship and hear the awesome music from an allstar lineup of musicians including Crisping Schroeder, David Pulkingham, Ellen Melissa Story, Gus Alvarado and Bobby McDonald.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church annual fundraiser is Sunday, May 5 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Worship service will be at 10 a.m. under the pavilion. Meal tickets are $15 per plate and include four pieces of fried chicken, green beans, buttered noodles, and a pickle spear. Desserts available for a donation. Meal served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Both dine-in and to-go available. Tickets available at the church office, Round Top Mercantile, Round Top State Bank, or church members. Raffle tickets also available.
