The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service Award provides a unique opportunity for chapters and states to recognize worthy individuals and organizations for outstanding voluntary service. The individual or organization must have contributed to the community in an outstanding manner which can be through voluntary heroic, civic, or benevolent service, or by organizing or participating in community activities.

The Smith-McMillan NSDAR Chapter awarded the 2022 NSDAR Community Service Award to Kathy Aydellote, owner of the Las Brisas Farm Wedding Venue in Fayetteville. After her son, Major Jason Aydellote, returned home with a war injury after serving in Iraq, Kathy noticed that the 40-acre farm had a peaceful affect on her son and this realization soon led to her beginning a Texas Veteran’s Project which would offer an active-duty military veteran a quiet stay in the countryside.

This soon led her to begin “Weddings for Warriors” where soldiers were provided a beautiful wedding free of charge on her beautiful Las Brisas Farm. Friends as well as some chapter members of the Smith-McMillan Chapter helped however possible in these events and Kathy Aydelotte held many individual and multiple weddings for soldiers until her husband, Eldon’s cancer diagnosis caused her to give him her undivided attention.

Although Kathy Aydelotte could not attend and receive her award, close friends and Smith-McMillan Chapter NSDAR members, Kathryn Callaway and Janet Murphy who have helped Kathy through the years in this endeavor graciously accepted the award on her behalf.
