Texas non-profit Night Heron Media is excited to announce the donation of children’s books to two area libraries. Night Heron president Mike Vance, who lives in the Shelby area, dropped off almost 100 brand new volumes at the Round Top Family Library in Round Top and the West End Public Library in Industry just prior to Christmas. The gift of the books was completely free of charge to these area institutions. The sole request was that the majority of the books be passed along so that area children can keep them as their own. Some copies may also become part of the libraries’ collections.

“We really love the idea of placing tangible books into the hands of children,” Vance said. “I’m a writer myself, and I know how magical holding and reading a good book can be. Being able to help out these terrific libraries makes it all the better.”

Included in the donated books were five titles, some for early readers and some more geared toward intermediate grades. The titles were inherited by Night Heron when Bright Sky Press, a high end Houston publisher shut their doors several years ago. Both founders of Night Heron previously had a relationship with Bright Sky, and some selected titles were transferred to Night Heron so that they could remain in print.

Night Heron Media was formed in 2019 to educate and entertain Texans about our culture, history, art and lifestyle. Since that time, NHM has published books including a beautiful title celebrating Special Olympics Texas at age 50. The award-winning video production team at Night Heron has released more than a dozen short educational documentaries about Texas history. Those films are available on the Night Heron Media website and its YouTube channel. Night Heron is currently producing a major video project for the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site and has two movie-length documentaries in production to complete the famed Birth of Texas Series that aired on select Texas PBS stations.

Night Heron Media is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They are accepting donations and memberships with all funds supporting their work in educating Texans about the state’s culture, history, arts and lifestyle. New funding for their documentary work helps teach Texas history to students and adults alike.
