Traffic Jams

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office diverted drivers off Hwy. 71 onto FM 955 for 24 hours from 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, May 20.

Brian Jasek, TxDOT Maintenance Supervisor for Fayette County explained the back-to-back traffic through town. “There was a wreck on State Hwy. 71 headed westbound that involved hazardous materials. They had to shut down the highway within so many feet of the spill. It was closed from FM 955 to the power plant. We don’t know if the city was notified. That’s up to the fire department.”
