Nearly 70 Young Cast and Crew Ready for FCCT’s Production of ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’
The Fayette County Community Theatre (FCCT) has announced the largest cast and crew in the organization’s history. Nearly 70 students are planning to take the stage in Doug Rand’s adaptation of the J.M. Barrie novel ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’ in a brand new (to them) venue this summer.
FCCT has partnered with La Grange Independent School District (LGISD), and invited students from Pre-K through college from all over Fayette County to participate in the production to be held at the LGISD Performing Arts Center (PAC) on the grounds of Hermes Elementary School in La Grange. Once auditions were announced, they came out in droves.
“We are so excited to have so many students, some returning from past productions and some brand new to our theatre family,” said student director Bryssa Rios. “We’ve got Peter Pan and Wendy, of course, Captain Hook and the Darling family, but also pirates and lost boys, mermaids and fairies! It’s going to be so much fun!”
There will be more than 55 kids onstage, and more than 10 participating backstage, and working with lights and sound, makeup and costuming. “It’s so important to give these kids a creative outlet and allow them to express themselves,” said program director Melissa Weltner. “This will be the fourth student production, our largest yet, and we are really looking forward to seeing all of them learn and grow and hope that they will enjoy the experience and want to come back year after year.”
“La Grange ISD is excited to partner with FCCT this year and share the newly renovated Performing Arts Center with area youth, “ said Sharon Muzny, Director of Operations and Safety for LGISD. “Our community is blessed to have a state-of-the-art space to practice and perform in, and also the hometown talent of FCCT volunteers to instruct these students in the art of theatre. These students are learning a dynamic skill set that can then transfer to building relationships and careers.”
The FCCT Student Production is sponsored by ARTS for Rural Texas, Texas Women’s League, and The City of LaGrange. Tickets to the play can be purchased at the FCCT Box Office and Studio and online via the link on their website: faycotheatre.com.
