A crowd gathered at the corner of Travis St. and S. Main St. in La Grange Wednesday afternoon for a dedication ceremony for the new mural painted on the side of Hart Land Real Estate.

“I’ve been thinking about doing something like this on our building for 10 years,” said Lisa Corker, owner of Hart Land Real Estate. “Michael and I have been searching for a muralist for 10 years. One day, in January of 2022, we drove down to the coast and came back through Columbus on a Sunday afternoon, and there’s Tyler painting a mural.”

Muralist Tyler Kay Reichert thanked the Corkers for giving her the opportunity to create such a grand tapestry.

“It was great getting to know Lisa and Michael and how much they care about La Grange and the legacy they want to leave here,” Reichert said.

“I had all these ideas, so I took Tyler to the library, the courthouse, the visitors center, and everything,” Lisa Corker said. “I told her what I was thinking, being born and raised here – Monument Hill, Kreische Brewery, the old parades downtown. Tyler brought this vision to life.”

The mural features depictions those La Grange landmarks and several others, along with some personal touches, such as a depiction of Michael and Lisa riding horses with Tyler and her assistant Andrea Gilson in a parade, and a pastoral scene featuring some of the Corkers’ longhorn cattle.

La Grange Main Street contributed a $6,000 mural grant to assist with the project. Mayor Jan Dockery gave a speech at the dedication Wednesday thanking the Corkers for their investment in downtown.

“As we look upon this mural, let us reflect on the stories it tells and the history it captures,” Dockery said. “Each of these images is a reflection of our shared past reminding us that despite our differences, we are connected by those who came before us.”
