Muldoon Pulls Through Arctic Blast Last Week

Muldoon Pulls Through Arctic Blast Last Week

Muldoon had the big freeze come through last week with temperatures dropping down to eleven degrees at one point. Saturday was beautiful and in the seventies and then starting on Sunday the temperatures started dropping with strong north winds kicking in. Some light icing helped bring in even colder temperatures. Muldoon was in the deep freeze for over two days straight.

With all the cold temperatures, there were some reported broken pipes, but overall it seemed that everyone fared much better than the last big deep freeze in 2021. The lack of snow did help and the shorter time under freezing temps also played a part in it feeling much better. Most with cattle still had to feed and check on them, making sure they had adequate water available and feed.

On Wednesday when once again more “normal” temps were felt in and around the area everyone started back into more normal activities and checking for any damage done by the cold temperatures. Schools reopened and everyone could get back to work. At this time there is rain in the forecast for the upcoming week, but not as cold temperatures are predicted.

Traffic

Please be aware that the ranchers in the area are working hard during the winter months to feed their cattle. This means there will more tractors out with hay bales and feed buggies. Slow down and respect they are handling heavy loads and cannot maneuver or stop quickly.

Check on Your Neighbors

A number of people in the area have been ill, and this is going into the big flu/cold season. Take time to check on your neighbors and the elderly. You might be able to drop off some food for them or pick up some groceries in town for them. Muldoon is a small community and we need to all pull together.

Out and About

Prior to the big freeze there were a few who were out and about. Dana and Darrell Kulak took off for a few days prior to see their grandson, Henry, and his parents Elton and Miko Kulak in Fort Worth. Dana and Darrell had to hurry home on Sunday to try and beat the cold air to Muldoon and finish getting the cattle ready for the big freeze.

Our grandson, Ira James Ivy and his mom Jenny Clair came from Austin on Saturday to visit. It was fun seeing how much Ira has grown and how much he enjoyed playing on the play set. We got to enjoy lunch and an afternoon of opening up belated Christmas presents.

Debra and John Schwartzenburg enjoyed having Victoria and Jason Guerrero and their daughters, Juliana and Jocelyn, come out from Houston to enjoy a day in the country. The girls had all kinds of adventures and took advantage of the time with dad to learn some roller skating.
