Christmas is coming and once again Muldoon will be celebrating on Saturday, Dec. 14, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Muldoon Museum. Enjoy wassail and a chance to visit with Mrs. Claus all while checking out this treasure of area history. Also while there, you have a chance to purchase some homemade bake goods and treats, and the proceeds will be going to the operation of the museum. The museum and Mrs. Claus will be open until 6 p.m.

If you are looking for the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, you need look no farther than the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church, located right behind the park. Beginning at 5 p.m. the SG2C will begin their children’s crafts events. All the area kids are invited to come out to make some Christmas crafts and visit with Santa until 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to find out what all is going on at this very active little church.

To round out the evening the evening, at 6:30 p.m., the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual Christmas meal. This year the meal will be fried fish, hush puppies, French fries, coleslaw, tea and water all for a free will donation. They do ask you to bring along your favorite dish or a dessert to share in potluck style.

Christmas in Muldoon will be collecting canned goods at all locations for the Flatonia Area Food Pantry and donations of toys for the Fayette County’s Santa Program, both wrapped and unwrapped. Christmas is the time of year to really reach down and share with those who are less fortunate and make their Christmas much brighter. A little bit can go so far if we all work together. For more information contact Sheila Brunner, the MVFD President, at (361) 772-0246. Hope to see you there.

Neighborhood Watch

It is the time of year when there are lots of strangers in the woods out here. Not all of those who come out are welcomed guests. If you see someone odd, strange, out of place at your neighbors, please call them. There has been some trespassers and who knows what else they might be up to that need to be stopped. If we all come together and just pick up that phone to call and let someone know of an out of place person or vehicle, we can prevent a crime. Muldoon is small but growing, and we all need to pull together to keep it safe.

Great Harvest

April Huddleston has been hard at work in her garden harvesting her fall vegetables. This year she has produced some tremendous sweet potatoes in her garden. A massive one weighted over eight pounds by itself. April’s sweet potatoes were very prolific and humongous. She really has a green thumb.

Out and About

Kathy and Frank Chlumsky’s grandson, Hunter Dong, won his first major wrestling tournament: a gold medal for D3 Novice at the Panhandle Nationals in Amarillo. This is a great accomplishment for Hunter and his grandparents are extremely proud of this young man’s hard work to achieve this honor.

John and Debra Schwartzenburg hosted the Schwartzenburg Thanksgiving for twenty people and one dog over the weekend. They had family in from Virginia, Maryland, Waco, Houston, La Grange and Kerrville. They smoked turkey and had lots of requested family favorite sides to go along with it. The whole group had a blast catching up on all the family doings all while the toddlers and babies got spoiled rotten.

The Boehnke Family gathered for Thanksgiving at Harold Boehnke’s home. More than 35 family and friends all came and shared lots of turkey, dressing, and lots of different sides. It was a time for everyone to catch up and see what everyone was doing since they all last saw each other.

James, Bobby and Joan Ivy all traveled to LaVernia for the Thanksgiving to join the Wetjen side of the family. All the siblings and the majority of their kids were all able to be there. The main one missing was Taylor Anderson, Jan and Jarvis’ youngest, who was playing an away schedule with her Purdue Volleyball team.
