    Muldoon Museum Closed

The Muldoon Museum is closed temporally for a big remodel. The Muldoon Museum is undergoing some much needed repairs and updates. The foundation will be leveled, the windows replaced and the siding will be replaced. When finished it should look the same and have a much improved interior to preserve Muldoon history.

The Muldoon Museum was founded to preserve and present artifacts from the area’s past. The museum houses a wide variety of items and they began the work of gathering the collection back in 2012. A small group of Muldoon area residents started with just an idea of preservation of history. With that idea they acquired the Muldoon Courthouse to house. They sought out pictures, and stories depicting life in early Muldoon. Muldoon was named after Father Michael (Miguel) Muldoon who through a Spanish land grant started Muldoon in 1886. It is this history and more that is recorded.

The Muldoon Museum houses not only pictures of Muldoon’s past; rock quarry, railroad depot, past celebrations, inflectional families and stores. They also have artifacts from the past from quilts and quilting frames to old railroad items, farming equipment and household items that once were common in kitchens in the area. It is always fun to see evolution of household items. The pictures are a view into the life that was in Muldoon in its hay day. Pictures of those who made Muldoon home and help form the community that is enjoyed today. It is interesting to see all the stores, and businesses that made up Muldoon. When the remodel/restoration of the building is finished, plan on stopping by and checking all the rich history that has been preserved within the walls of a small community museum. They also have honored the military members of the Muldoon community with a plaque with names mounted of all those who are known to have served in the U.S. military.

Traffic Muldoon has seen an increase in traffic recently. Not only eighteen wheelers, but also of just general traveling traffic. Be aware of this and drive defensive whether it is on the Farm to Markets or the county roads.

This increase in traffic has seen lots of animals getting hit on the roadways and that leads to buzzards and more to watch out for as you drive through the area. Many of the animals are on the move for water and food with the drought.

Weather Muldoon has been warm and very dry. The mornings have begun to be cooler, starting the day off in the fifties and sixties. Afternoons warm up into the high eighties and some days have been in the nineties. Rain is much needed with the fields getting drier and stock tanks drying up.
