Muldoon Happenings
German Visitors
This week our home was honored with a visit from Holger and Leon Niehauser from Bunde, Germany. Holger is an elder in the church that holds the baseball camp I have gone and coached at. His daughter Lexi was on my team and he wanted to come and see where I lived and experience agriculture in Texas, sadly we are in a bad drought.
Holger and Leon were staying with Kim and Barry Treas from Flatonia Baptist Church. We met up at Jamie’s Café in Flatonia and had lunch. Afterwards we took the Germans for a ride through the country in route to our home. Leon was so excited to get to not only see cows, but he got to drive a tractor! That was his highlight of his entire trip to the states. Following a meal of ribs we returned them to Flatonia, so they could have another Texas experience, High School Football watching the Flatonia Bulldogs play on their home field.
Out and About
Devon Boehnke and Dana and Darrell Kulak had a house full of family that came in on Saturday for Virginia Boehnke’s family. Devon’s other daughters and son came in with their families for the celebration of life ceremony that took place in Moulton at Zion Lutheran Church. Beth and Jack Field along with their girls Joy and Erica came in. April Pospisil and Annie Zimmerhanzel of Wharton; Jenny and Aaron Zuhn with their girls Charlotte and Delilah; Jeremy and Angela Wells and their kids Dylan and Briana of the Austin area. Also coming in to join the family were Dana and Darrell’s kids and grandson, Cynthia Kulak, Elton and Miko Kulak with their son Henry all of the Fort Worth area.
Dana and Darrell Kulak along with Darrell’s brother and sister in law, John David and Karen Kulak slipped off for a long planned vacation to explore the southern tip of Florida. They flew down to Miami and enjoyed a few days on the beach before driving to the southernmost point in the Florida Keys. They enjoyed some fun in the sun and got home long before the hurricane headed towards Florida.
Jennifer Rightmer went for a long anticipated trip to see her Aunt Maxine Goff. Jennifer flew to Pensacola, Florida and drove to Mississippi and visited. It was a nice visit with lots of reconnecting and relaxing.
Hogs
The hogs are out and about again. Be aware when you are driving especially at night the black ones are very hard to see and blend into the road very easily. There have been several hogs hit on the roadways in the area and they can cause some very expensive damage to vehicles. The drought conditions are driving them out and about to find food and water.
Weather
Muldoon is still very hot and dry. There were a few drops spotted last week, but only enough to leave marks in the dust. Mornings have been cooling off with a few mornings recently in the high 60s. That is a pleasant change from the hot and muggy mornings we have been having. Afternoon temps cooled slightly for a while with a few days in double digits instead of triple digits, but that was short lived and things have heated up again.
A number of ranchers are feeding their herds already, due to the lack of pasture grazing. What grass is available, it is very dry and crispy. Rain is desperately needed in the area.
