This year the 4th of July will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6. Once again there will be a parade to help celebrate our nation’s birthday. Lineup will be at 8 a.m with the parade starting at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to come join in. It doesn’t have to be a fancy float, but you can decorate a four-wheeler, a horse, a car or truck and trailer, or even yourself and walk in the parade. No need to get fancy, just come show off your patriotism.

If you do not wish to participate in the parade you are invited to come and line up along the route that will come across the tracks by the Muldoon Mercantile, down FM 154 and work along through the park and circle back on itself so everyone in the parade can wave at each other. It is always a fun time.

The silent auction will begin at 10 a.m. Donations for the auction are always welcome. In the past there have been fresh veggies, antiques, hand made goods and all kinds of treasures. Come have fun and get into a bidding war with your neighbors to see who goes home with the best goodies.

At 11:30 a.m. lunch will happen. The Muldoon VFD is sponsoring the celebration for the Muldoon Park Association and will be serving hot dogs, chips and tea. Everyone is asked to bring along a side dish or dessert to help round out this all-American meal. It is always fun to see what everyone ryone brings to show off their culinary talent.

The day will also include a live auction, always a fun time. Funds raised at the auction go to the Park Assocation to help pay for up keep and maintenance of the facilities that have been such a great asset to the Muldoon community.

Muldoon Museum

The Muldoon Museum will be open on Saturday July 6 at 8:30 a.m. for anyone interested in the history of the community. The museum has a wide variety of items to show how the Muldoon community has changed over the years. Everything from old farm equipment, home items and railroad paraphernalia. All items reflect the history of the area and Muldoon’s roots. It includes a plaque honoring those who have served in the military.

Take the time to stop by and take a look the wide variety of items and visit with the museum volunteers. You might even want to get involved and volunteer.

Fire Department has a new website online at www.muldoonvfd. org. The website was created to keep friends, and neighbors informed and to share community events or happenings. The website will also provide information for property owners whose primary residency may be elsewhere. The website was created in memory of Virginia Boehnke, one of the original founders of the MVFD.

Out and About

Kathy and Frank Chlumsky enjoyed having their grandsons, Connor and Hunter Dong, spend the weekend with them, while parents enjoyed some time on the lake. While here they spent some time down at the railroad museum in Flatonia. They really enjoyed that the curator opened the rail tower, caboose and old jail for the boys. Everyone learned quite a bit about the old train system.

Nancie Blair recently traveled to the Ft. Worth area to visit her mom Elaine Lang, and my sister Lu Ginapp for her birthday. Joining us at Chili’s for Lu’s birthday lunch was her daughter and family, Chrystal, Steve and Carolina Riddell. After lunch they all enjoyed a little shopping together.

Jennifer and Clay Rightmer hosted family for Father’s Day weekend. Their daughter Lane Rightmer came in from Waco and son Reed Rightmer came in from Houston to honor their dad, Clay. Also joining in on the big weekend was Jennifer’s dad Will Howard and wife Marilyn of Horseshoe Bay; brother Wade Howard and sister Julie Zavala of Georgetown.
