More from LGISD’s School Board Meeting Monday

LGISD Superintendent Andy McHazlett gave the board a report Monday that included the status of the graduation ceremony, enrollment and attendance.

As of press time, the plan is for the graduation ceremony to take place at Leopard Stadium at 8 p.m. The graduates have been practicing for both an outdoor and an indoor ceremony. If the ceremony is moved inside the high school gym due to increment weather, each student will have six tickets for their guests to attend.

He updated the board on enrollment numbers.

The total enrollment for the district is 1,815 students, with 934 at the elementary campus, 289 at the middle school campus, and 592 at the high school campus. The ADA (average daily attendance), which determines funding, is 1,723.43.

Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers informed the board of changes with the district realignment for our academic competitions. For the 2026-27 school year, La Grange will compete against Bellville, Giddings, Katy Harmony, Navasota, Royal, Sealy, and Tomball West. She also stated that the academic meet will take place at Wharton County Junior College instead of Blinn Junior College as it has in past years. She informed that Head Start is working on plans for next school year. There is a new director and she is “picking up right where the old director left off.” There will be 17 kids in the 3-4 year old class with two staff members and 16 in the 0-3 year old class with four staff members.

Director of Operations Sharon Muzny told the board that Hodges Construction is scheduled to start on the sewer line replacement at the high school on Tuesday, May 26.
