The City has called a special council meeting to approve the tax rate for the City this Friday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m..

City Council member Yvonne McGowen has resigned from her position in Place V. The City of Fayetteville and the Fayetteville City Council wish to thank her for her ongoing, selfless service to our community. Pam Fritsch Reynolds has been appointed to serve the rest of McGowen’s term, effective immediately. Fritsch is a lifelong Fayetteville resident. Her husband, John Reynolds, is a chef.

The verification of its cemetery records is now in the process by the City of Fayetteville. If you are aware of a plot that has been purchased, but not yet used, please contact Sandee Wilkinson, the City secretary, at fayettevilletx@ cvctx.com or (979) 378-2559.

The City budget for years 2023-24 was approved.AFayetteville Economic Development Corporation Grant was approved to share in the cost of two billboards produced by ARTS currently installed off Hwy. 71.

National Night Out

The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Dept. will be hosting a National Night Out on Monday, Oct. 3 in the Fayetteville fire station from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Come enjoy hot chili, cheese, chips, desserts, ice cream and more.

On the roadways

On the state highways leading into Fayetteville, the signage has been installed identifying our town as a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

TXDOT has stated that the construction at the intersection of FM 955 and Hwy. 71 is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

Sing for Your Supper

Dine with Houston Grand Opera performers and hear selections from the opera “Katie: Strongest of the Strong” on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. Better hurry: Only 50 tickets will be sold. “Sing for Your Supper” is part of ARTS for Fine Art School Assemblies. Courthouse Music Series Music? We love the stuff. Mayor Mike keeps a group of devoted followers and new fans entertained every Friday night at Joe’s. Now you can expect even more music in the air every week from Oct. 3 through Oct. 31 in the square during Round Top Antiques Weeks. You’re all invited and it’s free.

Introducing the Fayette Courthouse Music Series, a biannual music series held on Tuesday nights in October and March to take full advantage of the swarm of Round Top shoppers. Expect to see outstanding musicians, most of whom are showcasing their talents in Fayetteville for the first time. The series is being presented by ARTS for Rural Texas. After the performances, ARTS will present a donation to the City at ArtWalk earmarked for the Fayetteville Courthouse Fund.

Bring a chair. Pick up dinner and grab a cold one at Joe’s or Orsak’s. They will be selling charcuterie boxes, sacked burger meals, etc. Retail businesses in and around the square will be invited to stay open late during shows. In case of rain, the concert will be cancelled for that evening. The performances will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. in our historic square with our courthouse as the backdrop. Music genres will vary.

“The idea for this series came about in part to have something to showcase our wonderful courthouse and square and to provide another resource to contribute to the Courthouse Maintenance Fund,” stated Sandra Borne, music series organizer. “We hope the event will attract locals and families and possibly bring in people who are in the area for the antiques.” Contact Borne for sponsorship opportunities at (512) 971-3901.
