Martin Luther Lutheran Church to Hold Farewell Dinner for Pastor

A farewell dinner for Pastor David Tinker will be held on Sunday, Feb. 9 following worship in the Fellowship Hall. He has accepted a call to serve Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek, which is near Seguin.

RSVP to the church office no later than Jan. 30 with the number of people attending.

Pastor Tinker will begin his service at Elm Creek on Sunday, March 2.

Snow in Carmine 

It was snowing in Carmine and around the county on the night of Jan. 20.

RT-C School News 

High school girls’ and boys’ basketball teams play at Dime Box on Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. They host North Zulch on Jan. 31 also at 5 p.m.

Jr. High girls and boys host Buckholts on Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. for the last game of the season.

Carmine VFD 

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department drill night is Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the fire station.

Carmine 42 Domino Club The Carmine 42 Club Domino Club met at JW’s Steakhouse on Jan. 8.

Eight games of 42 were played after a delicious lunch.

High-scoring partners were Myrt Meinkowsky and Carol Jenkins with a score of 2,025 and they played three 84’s. Marlene Waak and Jeanette Schoenst were the second highest with a score of 1,902 and they played one 84. Partners Edith Flinn and Donna Mueller played one game of 84. Other players were Betty Porter and Avalda Pohl.

Fried Chicken Meal The Carmine Hall is sponsoring a fried chicken meal on Sunday, Feb. 16 with carry-out only from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. It includes a half chicken with trimmings.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Carmine State Bank or by calling (214) 7321014.

Desserts will be available for a donation to support the scholarship fund.

Rebekah Group at MLLC The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Jan. 9. The eight members present were Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, Diana Wunderlich, Joann Ullrich, Jennifer Tinker, Dianna Gerland, and Nancy Eilers.

The Bible study was a group effort with the theme, “Faithfulness in These Days”; Session 1: Ruth and Naomi.

The business meeting was called to order by Vice-President, Joann Ullrich.

A thank-you note was received from Hospice Brazos Valley for the $500 sent them.

Baby care kits are being collected during January. Members are asked to shop for diapers, jackets, T-shirts and other items for the kits. Quilting is on Monday, Jan. 13.

Parties will soon be planned for nursing homes during 2025.

The theme for the Salad Supper this year in June will be “Let Freedom Ring.”

Happy Birthday was sung for the January birthday celebrants, Jennifer Tinker, Thelma Hinze, and Dianna Gerland.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.

Hostesses were Sedalia Ullrich and Joys Baird.

MLLC News 

Beginning on Feb. 1, Martin Luther Lutheran Church Saturday services will be cancelled until further notice.

Confirmation class meets Wednesday from 4:15-6:45 p.m.

AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

There will be no Saturday service.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday Worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany, is at 10 a.m.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Visitors’ Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot and Museum is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The next dates are Feb. 7 and 8.
