On Monday, Oct. 16, the F.I.R.S.T Class Education Awards winners were celebrated at the Haus Venue in Victoria.

F.I.R.S.T. stands for Faith, Integrity, Respect, Scholarship and Tradition. St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg is proud to recognize Marshall Herzik as their Distinguished Alumni Award winner this year.

Marshall Herzik is a faithful, honest, hard-working, generous man who does not sit idle; he is in constant motion. If you don’t find him working at his home town family business, then he’s at mass, volunteering and supporting parish and school events, or helping family and friends. He is hard-working and to those close to him, it seems like he never takes a break. Marshall has always been grateful for the Catholic Education he has received and the life he has worked so diligently over the years to provide for himself and his family.

Herzik has been an independent home-town small business owner of Herzik’s Milk and Grain for 47 years and still going strong. Marshall took over the business from his father in 1976 and over the years grew it by diversifying with additional feed products. He paved the path of success for himself, it was not easy and required much dedication on his part to learn the ins and outs of the trade. From hauling late nights and early mornings, to helping change tires, he has done it all. His perseverance has allowed him to find success in what may typically could have been an unprofitable venture.

Marshall Herzik also put perseverance into his family. His love and pride radiate for his children and wife when speaking with Marshall. His children shared he does so much for them, “more than enough,” but when speaking with Marshall he wishes to do more. He sent all three of his children Amanda, Clayton, and Hailey to St. Rose School, where they too graduated and are active alumni. Currently he has three grandchildren attending St. Rose and three more will be coming soon.

Marshall Herzik faithfully attends mass both on Sundays and during the week. For several years he has served and continues to serve as an usher on the schedule and volunteers whenever needed. He is often seen at the weekly school masses. In addition to usher service, Marshall helps work at all the church picnics.

While his children attended St. Rose, Marshall Herzik served on the St. Rose School Board several years. In addition to time and talent, he has been a generous contributor through donations, buying yearbook ads, raffle tickets, fundraiser dinners, galas, etc. You can always see Marshall at the school’s Christmas Around the World major event helping and supporting.
