Marie Loewe Named Carmine Chamber Citizen of the Year
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Texas Awards Mixer was held on the Friday before Texas Independence Day, Feb. 28 at the Busted Oak Cellars. Chamber President, Courtney Kieke, guided the events of the evening.
Marlene Waak, chamber treasurer, presented the Business and Citizen of the Year awards.
The Business of the Year award went to Pecan Grove Inn, a popular bed and breakfast in Carmine for 25 years. The owners who started the business and continue to operate it today are James and Jane Press.
Marie Loewe was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year award. She has volunteered for various organizations including Carmine Museum, chamber and church activities, and is the secretary/ treasurer for the Carmine Lions Club.
Guests enjoyed a delicious enchilada meal with all the sides prepared by Busted Oak Cellars. Dessert was a scrumptious Texas-theme cake of Italian Cream and Red Velvet made by HK Cakery.
An icebreaker activity was led by the Social Director, Tamara Neese. Door prizes were distributed by the chamber secretaries, Lou Ann Stokes and Marcia Hingtgen.
Two excellent fiddle and accordion players, Robert Herridge and Ella Grace Broussard, strolled the event and got the crowd involved in many “happy” songs.
It was a very successful event. Remember next year on the Friday before March 2, Texas Independence Day, all of you will be invited to “meet and greet” at the annual Carmine Chamber Mixer.
