Annual Lorenz Reunion The descendants of August and Marie (Winzer) Lorenz gathered for the 39th annual reunion. The reunion was held on Saturday, July, 22 at Holy Cross Picnic Grounds in Warda and was hosted by the families of Herman and Martha (Foerster) Lorenz.

There were 50 family members in attendance. The meal consisted of chicken alfredo and Bolognese with salad and bread. Darryl Zoch traveled the farthest, from Indiana. Gertrude Lorenz was the oldest attendee. Lawrence and Burnies Richter was the longest married couple, at 73 years. Shortest married in attendance was John and Ashley Hinze at three years. Youngest in attendance was Brazos Hinze, son of John and Ashley Hinze at nine months.

A moment of silence was held for those who passed away: Victor Bohot, Dorothy Bohot, Alfred Bohot, Calvin Bohot, Milton Koenning, Amanda Knox, Irma Lorenz, Mildred Lorenz, Peggy Lorenz, Lorine Wikniskie, Erwin Miller, Kenneth Lorenz, Steve Janda, Carolyn Hazel, Irene Parker, and Matthew Sigmund. The 40th reunion will be held July 27, 2024.

Annual Barbecue

The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department Annual Barbecue will be held on Saturday Aug. 12, on the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Beef and pork BBQ to-go will be available at the pits starting at 4:30 p.m. Beef and pork BBQ plates, served with all the trimmings, will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. This will be a free-will donation for meal and beer. There will be a silent auction beginning at 3 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music throughout the afternoon will be performed by The Blue Sunsets. All proceeds go towards updating fire equipment.

Faith Lutheran High School Opening Service for Faith Lutheran High School will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. This will officially open their seventh academic school year. “Better Together” based on Romans 15: 5-6 is the theme for 2023-2024. A worship service will be held at Holy Cross Church, led by the association Pastors. An offering will be collected to support FLHS Scholarship fund. A potluck dessert and punch reception will follow. The community is invited to attend.

Registration for the 20232024 school year for Faith Lutheran High School is underway. There are currently 20 students enrolled. Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study Group will begin a new study on the Old Testament ment book of 1 Samuel on Sept.6 at 6:30 p.m. This 11week study will cover the calling of the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. Ladies Stamp Program Ends

The Ladies Stamp Program at Holy Cross in Warda is coming to an end and they ask that anyone having stamps to turn in would do so by Sept. 1, so they can get them sent in to the Texas District Stamp Program. They can be brought to the church office, dropped off in the designated box in the hallway, or mail to Lisa Gay PO Box 141 Warda, TX. 78960.

Holy Cross Annual Picnic Save the date for the Holy Cross Annual Church Picnic, to be held on Sunday Sept. 3 at the church picnic grounds. More information will be coming soon.

FLHS Oktoberfest

Faith Lutheran High School’s Annual Oktoberfest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28, New this year will be the Battle of the Vines, in addition to the Battle of the Brew-both are home brew competitions, so start planning your brews now. Returning will be the traditional German meal, domino tournament, cornhole tournament, music, kids games and lots of fun.

Condolences

Sympathy to Ralph Bamsch and family on the unexpected passing of Carolyn Bamsch. Her funeral was held at Holy Cross in Warda on July 28.

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

The “Blessing of the Backpacks” will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13 at the regular service. Sunday School Promotion Day will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27. Sermon links/streaming videos and additional information is on the website at: www.holycrosswarda.com.
