Germany Trip
The last week of June was a very busy one for a number of people who are members of the Flatonia Baptist Church, including Penny and Steven McFarlin, Lora Cherry and Joan Ivy. This group, along with sixteen others traveled to Bunde, Germany. They traveled there to play baseball, lead cheer camp and teach about Jesus. It was a long haul, but it was worth every minute of travel. The group held a baseball/ cheer camp every day that climaxed with a tournament. The kids learned to throw and catch a baseball, bat and make plays. There were over eighty kids in baseball camp ages eight to nineteen. There were around forty girls participating in the cheer camp, learning cheers and dance moves.
Every day there was a “question of the day” or as the Germans say “Frage des Tages” that the kids would leave the answer at kiosk (snack shack) and winners of great Texas stuff were drawn each night at church. The kids had to be there to win, so church was full each night.
At the end of the week there were winners of both the younger and the older groups. The winners were presented with metals by Bunde’s Burgermeister (mayor.) The baseball camp is a very big deal in Germany, where baseball is not as common as it is in the states.
Everyone enjoyed the much cooler temperatures of Germany with temperatures in the 60s on Saturday. That made the Texans all search out jackets. The highest temperatures were in the 80s one day, so coming home to Muldoon was a temperature shock.
Condolences
Native Muldoon resident Cooper Dale Cherry Sr passed away on June 26. He was the son of the late William Wallace Cherry and Peggy Krause Cherry. He is survived by his son, Cooper Cherry, Jr.; brothers Chris Cherry, William Wallace Cherry, Jr. and former wife LoraLee Farmer.
Cooper grew up in Muldoon and was friends with a large number of Muldoon natives who fondly remember riding motorcycles with him. Cooper’s playing of his electric guitar was legendary as it was heard near and far as he played in his dad’s airplane hanger.
Fourth of July Celebrated Muldoon celebrated the Fourth of July early on Saturday July 2 with a parade and picnic in the park. Everyone who attended enjoyed visiting along with popcorn and snow cones to go with the hot dogs and all the sides/desserts that were brought to share.
Out and About
Kathy and Frank Chlumsky traveled to Austin recently to celebrate their granddaughter’s 6th birthday. They got a chance to enjoy some birthday fun with granddaughter Olive and her brother Marcus and really enjoyed the time they got to spend with them while they were there.
Nancie and Billie Blair enjoyed a visit from grandson Kelly Schick of Houston recently. Kelly came in to celebrate Heather Tillerson’s birthday and just hang out with family in the country.
Bridge Repairs
There will be some upcoming bridge repairs that are being overseen by TxDOT in the Muldoon area. There are several on the books, starting with the bridge on Boehnke Road at Busby Branch. Boehnke Road will be closed at Busby Branch for about five months, so make plans to detour around that area.
Also on the repair list: Wallace Road at Buckners Creek; North Old Smithville Road at Buckners Creek; and South Old Smithville Road at Live Oak Creek. These repairs will happen one at a time, so be aware of possible road closures and reroute when needed. All these bridges have been due for upgrades and are just now coming up on the rotation of repairs.
These repairs are going to cause some incontinence, but they are some much needed repairs. Please just plan on rerouting as each bridge undergoes repairs.
