Local Veteran, Tommy Swearingen, recently took a trip of a lifetime. Tommy left on Friday, Nov. 4 on the Honor Flight #78 out of Austin. The group he was with were up bright and early Saturday morning as they toured the WWII Memorial, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, Marine Corps War Memorial, Airforce Memorial, Navy Memorial and Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial. He was honored to take a trip to Arlington National Cemetery where he was asked to help lay a wreath on the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. There was a big welcome home gathering at the airport upon his arrival back home, along with welcome home banners on his property in Warda. Tommy served in the Marines from 1966-1968.

Holy Cross Quilting Group The Quilting Group at Holy Cross in Warda has had a wonderful and busy year. Last week they packed up and sent 48 quilts to Lutheran World Relief. The Ladies Group packed up and sent 67 health kits. These quilts and health kits are distributed around the world to areas in need. Thanks to all who contribute to this. If you are interested in joining their group contact the church office at (979) 242-3333. You do not have to be a member of the church to join this fun group. They meet each Thursday morning. You can also sew from home, donate good quilting fabrics and batting or make a donation to their shipping fund. All help is appreciated.

Holy Cross Youth Group The Youth Group at Holy Cross will meet on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 11:15 a.m. for a Friendsgiving Favorite Food Potluck. Everyone who attends is asked to bring their favorite food to share with the group. It can be a main dish, side or dessert.

They will also have a “Nailed It” style challenge involving cookies. They will end the evening by splitting into two groups for Bible Study. All youth in grades 5 through high school are invited to attend. You can contact the church office if you’d like more information at (979) 242-3333.

Fried Chicken Dinner The Holy Cross Lutheran Church Couples Club will have their annual fried chicken dinner on Sunday, Nov. 20. This will be drive through only from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. Tickets are $12 each and are available in the church office or at the LaGrange Chevron. Deadline to get tickets is Monday. Nov. 14.

Along with the Couples Club fried chicken dinner on Nov. 20, Faith Lutheran High School will have a pie sale. All pies are a generous 10-inch size and deep-dish. Pre-orders only. Pecan pies are $30 each and pumpkin pies are $20 each. To order call FLHS at (979) 2422889 or email Ann Bamsch at annbamsch226@gmail.com.

Instrumentalists Wanted Holy Cross Lutheran in Warda is planning for their 150 year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, April 23, 2023 and are looking for instrumentalists to participate in the celebration. If you are interested, please contact the church office at (979) 2423333.

Bible Study Group The Bible Study Group at Holy Cross Lutheran in Warda is finishing up their current study and will take a break until the New Year. Watch for information, coming soon, about their new study in January.

Condolences Our sympathy to David and Ingrid Weishuhn and Barry and Virginia Weishuhn and their families on the death of their aunt, Elizabeth Kappler.

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Thanksgiving Eve Worship will be held on Wednesday Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Faith Lutheran High School

Everyone is invited to join in the weekly Chapel Worship Service every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. There will be a special 6th Anniversary Thanksgiving Chapel and Feast on Wednesday, Nov. 16 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Thomas Obersat will be leading the worship and a fellowship and potluck will immediately follow.

The archery team will have competitions from November to January. Basketball practices have begun and schedules will be coming soon.
