Randy Jay Tolman is a preacher with a Fayette County connection who is enjoying the fruit of his labor. The 75 -year-old preacher considers acting to be his second calling. His most recent project, “A Law for Christmas,” was released on December 1.

Tolman began his acting career with the Fayette County Community Theater about seven years ago while he was managing Camp Lost Pines for his church. The camp is in Warda Texas between La Grange and Giddings. He has been an extra in many projects, including several films; he’s had speaking parts in a few; he’s also been featured in a number of commercials.

“A Law for Christmas” tells the story of a powerhungry young politician who is appointed to be Secretary of Agriculture. She is given the task of interviewing farmers to find out how pleased they are with the way the government is helping them. During the course of the interviews, she rediscovers the true meaning of Christmas.

Tolman plays the part of a farmer named Jack who really wants to give his family a great Christmas. Farm finances are slim and it seems that there is not a solution for the problem. You will have to watch the video to see how the problem is solved.

“A Law for Christmas” is a faith-based-film which is a product of a new generation of movie makers with a passion for sharing their faith in Christ. As part of this new endeavor, Randy chose to donate his time for the project. (James 2:18) He and his wife Elizabeth traveled to Smyrna, Tennessee, in September for the filming and they stayed in their RV for the duration of his part of the work. They returned to Smyrna (a suburb of Nashville) for the red-carpet premier on November 15, 2023.

His Wharton connection is his wife, Elizabeth Dettling Moreno. Tolman married the Wharton author two years ago and their lives together have been caught up in a whirlwind ever since. They have served as pastors of New Life Harvest Church in Bacliff since September 1, but before that, they pastored for eight months at Grand River Family Worship Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.

One of the people who inspires him is his youngest granddaughter, Callie Hope Haverda. Callie, who is sixteen, has had an acting career since she was just a little tyke. Her grandpa even had an opportunity to be an extra in “The Lost Husband,” one of the first movies that she was in. She is now playing the part of Leia Forman in “That 90s Show.”
