The LHS class of 1958 held its 65th class reunion on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club. The reunion began at 11 a.m. with classmates meeting and renewing old friendships.
One of the highlights was a surprise for Kay Hagler Pennington. Kay’s family had moved to South America during her senior year. She completed her studies by correspondence. However, she was not able to graduate with her classmates and receive her diploma. It was arranged for Superintendent Bill Wagner to present to Kay her LHS diploma as she wore her cap and gown, after 65 years.
Rodney Koenig read the names of the deceased classmates which totaled 37 followed by a moment of silence.
Discussions were held on subjects including markers at St. Mark’s, or teachers, band and twirlers, FFA, FHA, cheerleaders, boys and girls athletics. After the athletics were discussed a mini pep rally was led by cheerleaders Nancy Yates Kilty and Lou Ann Birdwell Stephens, and the football players. Rodney Koenig played the trumpet as we sang the Leopard fight song.
Lloyd Wiley traveled the furthest (1,400-plus miles) and David Tiemann traveled the least 2-3 miles to reach the reunion.
A poll revealed, the class had a total of 122 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren.
The reunion committee was introduced consisting of Rodney Koenig, Elva Keilers, Leon Mueller, Nancy Yates Kilty, Jewel Schulz Kay, and Charles Sivek.
It was agreed to meet in two years for the 67th Reunion.
