LG Senior Citizens Honor Mannie Fritsch-Schmid
The La Grange Senior Citizens Activity Center, Inc. held their spring meeting/ luncheon on Thursday, April 20 at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. President John Rice welcomed the group and Board Member Audrey Huenefeld gave an inspirational prayer. The group then pledged allegiance to the American and Texas flags led by Glenn Altwein. Secretary Helen Oestreich read the minutes of previous meetings and Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska gave the treasurer’s report. Cash door prizes were handed out to 10 lucky winners.
Kyle Janda, guest speaker from Fayette Savings Bank, presented an informational program giving important financial advice to seniors. Several handouts were given, including how to protect ourselves from Identity Theft. After the meeting, luncheon was served and our new La Grange City manager, Fred Bell, visited informally with the group.
A day trip to Cuero to visit the Chisholm Trail Museum and a Smithsonian exhibit took place on Tuesday, May 9. The group left from the Randolph Recreation Center parking lot at 9 a.m.
A brief board meeting was held after the general meeting. Glenn Altwein, Mannie Fritsch-Schmid and Marceil Prestridge are out-going board members and Phil Oestreich was welcomed as a new board member. The next Board meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreational Center and the next general meeting/ luncheon will be held Thursday, Nov. 2.
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center is for any individual, 50 years of age or over, living in La Grange and surrounding communities. This group was incorporated in 1991 to provide educational programs, activities and services based on health, recreation, social and gerontological interest and needs of senior citizens. The group provides programs, services, experiences and opportunities for senior citizens which enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement in programs and activities in order that they may live more peacefully, happily and usefully.
