On June 18, 2021, after months of COVID-induced silence, the sound of laughter and music once again rose from the historic N.W. Faison home in La Grange. The Faison Preservation Society (FPS) was finally able to host the promised high tea auction item from the 2019 Texas Women’s League (TWL) Charity Gala.

The twelve high bidders enjoyed a historical tour as well as delicious finger sandwiches, scones, and many other delights. Additionally, Audrey Huenefeld entertained the crowd with period music played on the historic Knabe square grand piano, circa 1864.

“We were pleased to be able to finally host the party,” said Marie Watts, vice president of the FPS. The TWL has been a long-time supporter of the house and crucial to our survival. Watts noted that another summer party was held in the same room 137 years ago. The 1884 La Grange Journal noted:

Mr. and Mrs. P.B. Faison entertained a number of young ladies and gentlemen at their residence last Friday evening. The time was spent in social converse diversified with music and agreeable amusements. An elegant coliation (sic) of the good things of life was spread on the occasion and highly enjoyed by their guests. Misses Faison and Rhodes were untiring in their efforts to make every one (sic) feel at home.

The N.W. Faison Home located at 822 South Jefferson, La Grange, Texas is on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is open Saturdays from noon until four for tours or during the week by appointment for large groups. The house is available for small parties.
