The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce hosted an Entrepreneurship Symposium at Casino Hall on Thursday, March 7.

The keynote speaker was Michelle Savage, founder and publisher of Sulit Press, an independent book publishing business. Savage’s topic was “Going with Your Gut: How We Choose the Risks Worth Taking.”

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area gave a presentation about businesses offering child care as part of a compensation package. Annie Hudspeth of the Small Business Administration also gave a presentation access to capital.

Kyle DeHaas of SCORE, a nonprofit that helps small businesses succeed, gave a talk titled “Starting a Business Successfully: What are the Myths and Realities of Entrepreneurship.” Phalanx Outreach Solutions followed with a presentation about digital platforms essential for business.

The owners of three lo-cal businesses, Mac’s Daqs, Southern Ways and The Grounding Breath, spoke about their entrepreneurship experiences.

“The path to small business success is different for every entrepreneur,” said La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Deokie Ramjohn during her opening remarks. “For some, access to small business funding and key resources is challenging. For others, increasing business knowledge is the key to success.”

Ramjohn wished to thank all of the speakers along with Second Chance Emporium for their assistance in bringing the Entrepreneurship Symposium
