Knotts Take Epic Trip for 40th Anniversary
ULDOON News
Ron and Pam Knotts celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year and celebrated with a trip to the East Coast. They first flew into Washington DC and set up in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The area was quiet and perfect for walking to area shops and restaurants. The first morning they enjoyed a late breakfast at Bob and Edith’s, a 24 hour coffee shop. They visited it several more times during the week. Having been to the area many times before, this trip was a chance to revisit some favorites. Sightseeing included Arlington National Cemetery, the new Eisenhower Memorial, and the National Museum of American History.
The weather was mild and crowds were sparse, so the biggest challenge was parking in the massive underground garages and navigating buildings with increased security. One highlight of that first week was riding Amtrak to New York City to see the Rockettes Christmas Show. It was a full day of amazing sights and sounds, and then back on the train back to D.C. Ron and Pam spent several hours walking on the Mall to see the monuments by moonlight. Abraham Lincoln never looked better.
The second leg of their trip involved relocation to Colonial Williamsburg for more early American history. On Saturday night the big celebration was called “The Grand Illumination.” The restored Historic District was lit with candles and wood fires, live musical performances were hosted all along the streets and costumed “town folks” brought everything to life. The finale of the evening was a truly spectacular fireworks show. The following days brought more historical sites and experiences that were reaching all the way back to Jamestown. On the last day there was a quick drive back to Washington and the couple headed back to Austin. What a great Christmas season trip to remember and mark their 40th anniversary year.
Weather
At the time of this writing everyone in the area has been gearing up for a big cold freeze on Friday. The cows have been fed and the water troughs prepared to experience some deep freeze temperatures.
We did experience some rain on Monday with areas to the south of Muldoon getting up to three inches in spots. The weather has held out with cool temps, but not much moisture after that initial down pour. The arctic front is due in on Thursday afternoon.
