Movie Filmed in Fayetteville Close to 200 FISD students and staff served as extras for the filming of the movie “Sound of Willow” which wrapped up in Fayetteville on May 5. “We had kids that actively participated behind the scenes, contributing to the production and setup, and will receive on-screen credit for their work in the film. I had 12 students that went to Festival Hill to participate in the filming of the final scene,” stated Dr. Harvey. “They sang as part of the choir. They had to audition. What was really fun was when you have kids come up to you and talk about how excited they are. You don’t get that a lot.”

“The historic red building was the very setting they were looking for. It’s iconic. It’s amazing how they transformed it. They don’t film in chronological order. They filmed in the classroom, the cafeteria and the playground. We tried to make the space available as they needed it. Our boardroom served as a teachers’ office for Lee Majors. Another area upstairs was the principal’s office.

I got to speak with Lee Majors and really enjoyed the conversation. He signed a baseball for me. I talked to all the actors. 'The director, Shawn Welling, was very cordial and respectful. He worked hard, not wanting to disrupt what we had going on, and I’m very appreciative of him. He was meticulous.

The movie should be out before Christmas and a screening will be held sometime in November in Round Top. We have final edit approval to insure what you see on film of the kids is representative of our district and our community values. It was a wonderful experience and will be a great memory.“ Dr. Harvey wishes to thank the school board for allowing the film crew to come in and take over after state testing was completed.

ArtWalk

Artist and Veterinarian Karen Bookout considered ArtWalk a huge success. “This was the eighth ArtWalk I’ve participated in and this was the best one ever. Everything ran so efficiently. I enjoyed getting a lot of tips on how to set up, how to take down and just meeting other artists and really nice people. And I sold a lot of paintings this year.” Check out her website: kbookoutart.com.
