RT-C School News

Mallory Krause was crowned homecoming queen and Tanner Schobel was named basketball beau on Dec. 8 at Round Top-Carmine High School.

RT-C High School is sponsoring 30 children this year with the Joy Tree, which assists local families in need this holiday season.

The Texas Girls Coaches Association has named their all-state volleyball roster for 2023. Five girls from RT-C were named to the class 1A team. They are seniors Mallory Krause, Maggie Salinas and Kaysie Ward and juniors Jill Eilers and Tess Eilers.

RT-C is on winter break until Jan. 8, 2024.

Jan. 4 is a teacher work day and Jan. 5 is a professional development day.

Christmas Lighting Contest The Carmine Christmas Lighting contest has been set for Thursday, Dec. 21 in the evening until 9 p.m.

Out-of-town, anonymous judges will be driving within the city limits for the judging of both residences and businesses. Remember to leave your lights on.

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce appreciates all of the joy and Christmas spirit that is being spread with the beautiful decorations for all to enjoy.

The winners of both residences and businesses will be given a yard sign and a gift certificate as a token of the Chamber’s appreciation.

Holiday Craft Contest

Carmine Chamber of Commerce holiday craft contest for grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade was held in conjunction with the 39th annual Polar Express Carmine Christmas Fest on Dec. 3.

There were 29 crafts entered from ornaments to a Grinch blanket and from wall hangings to posters. Three age groups were determined, and the first-place winners were given two passes to Horseshoe Junction in Brenham. The second-place prizes were two passes to Westwood Theatre in Brenham.

Results were as follows: In grades 2 and 3, first place went to Ellen Hernandez and second place to Ariyanah McCullough.

In grades 4 and 5, first place was won by Ellie Archibeque and second place went to Sofia Johnson.

In grades 6 through 8, first place went to Conner Fricke and second place to Morgan Williams.

Every participant was given a thank you note with a $2 bill from the Carmine Chamber. The display was enjoyed by everyone who came to the Carmine Christmas Fest to see all the talent and enthusiasm that were put into crafting for the holidays.

Ledbetter Lane of Lights This weekend, Dec. 22 and 23 is the last time to go to the Ledbetter Christmas Lane of Lights.

Enjoy a hayride through a lighted path of Christmas reflections. Santa will be there each night. Tickets are available from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at FM 1291 and Hwy 290.

It is sponsored by the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department. Carmine Lions Club

The Carmine Lions Club has collected toys for the Fayette County Deputy Santa program. They will be delivered to La Grange with distribution planned for Dec. 21.

Carmine VFD

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department will not have a regular meeting in December.

With the cold weather, make sure your smoke detectors are working and remember to keep space heaters away from combustible material.

MLLC News

An Advent service will be held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. A meal of chicken spaghetti, salad, bread, and desserts will be served at 6 p.m. The theme this year is the hymn, “Joy to the World” with the third and final service of the series titled “He rules the world with truth and grace.” The services are led by both Pastor John David Nedbalek of Round Top and Pastor David Tinker of Carmine.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fourth Sunday of Advent, is at 6 p.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 10 a.m.

Christmas Eve Candlelight service is Sunday at 6 p.m.

Christmas Day worship with Holy Communion is at 10 a.m.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Visitors’ Center

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meals of Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

To sign up, come by on any Wednesday morning to fill out the paperwork. For information, contact Marilyn Wagner at (979) 277-4134.

Recycling Center

The recycling trailer is now at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

There is only an unmanned trailer in Ledbetter behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic (please separate them and take note that No. 5 plastics are not accepted), dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload in Carmine.
