Judge Dan Mueller Proclaims Flag Day
Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller has proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day in Fayette County. KJZT Family Life Holman Society accepted the proclamation.
National Flag Day honors the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our National symbol by the Continental Congress 246 years ago on June 14, 1777. National Flag Day was the dream of Bernard J. Cigrand, a 19-year-old school teacher in Fredonia, Wisconsin. In 1885, Cigrand celebrated the first Flag Day by placing a small flag in a bottle on his desk. Cigrand taught his students about the history of the flag and recited a ceremonial pledge. His efforts led to a national holiday. Now each year on June 14, the flag is honored by Americans across the nation.
