The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church is alive and active in 2025. The youth activities on Wednesday nights have resumed and Sunday morning services are very well attended. If you are looking for a God-based church take time to check out SG2C on Sunday mornings. Coffee and goodies are there are 9:30 a.m. with a chance to meet and get to know everyone. Worship services begin at 10 a.m. These are some wonderful people who are working hard to improve our little community. Make plans to attend some Sunday.

Illnesses in Area

There seems to be a number in the community that have been ill and most seem to be recovering. Everything from respiratory bugs, colds, flu and COVID are making their rounds in the Muldoon area. Be sure to wash your hands while out and about, and stay home if you are ill.

Out and About

Anne Marie Cherry has gone home after a seven day stay with her family in Muldoon. She got to catch up with her brother and sister-in-law, Martin Jr. and Lora Cherry, along with her niece Caroline and nephew Mitchell, while doing all the traditional family things. She also got to enjoy catching up with her parents Martin and Nancy Cherry. She made it a wonderful Christmas with checking out the Christmas lights and making the Christmas Eve services at First Baptist Church in Bastrop before having fun opening Christmas gifts. Anne Marie also got a chance to visit her old college roommate before having to drive back to Georgia.

It has been busy around our house. James, Bobby and I got to celebrate a late Christmas with our son Andy Ivy, Jenny Clare and our grandson Ira Ivy. It was nice to get to watch Ira enjoy playing in the country.

We also got a nice surprise on Wednesday when James Darling and his son Florent came in from Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, to visit us on their big Texas tour. James showed Florent where his relatives were buried and got to hear a bunch of old family stories. We all went out to lunch and have a wonderful visit before they headed on to see even more of the area and trace down some other family ties in the Smithville area, where James’ dad, Richard Darling, grew up.

Clay and Jennifer Rightmer enjoyed a visit from their daughter Lane Rightmer when she came in from Waco to lend a hand around the place.

Cold Weather

The first part of the January has been on the cold side in Muldoon. Strong winds blew in and brought with it temperatures in the midtwenties for the first part of the week. Things warmed up into the forties, but at the time of this writing we are promised some cold rain over the upcoming weekend. It looks to be a wild temperature ride for this first month of 2025.

The Hogs are on the Move The hogs are back and are moving in the day time. Please be very careful when driving in the area black hogs especially can be hard to see. Please drive a little slower. Hitting a hog can do some major damage to a vehicle. Then afterwards the scavengers become a problem flying up as you pass.
