We have officially entered Spring Antique Show month and with that comes a huge influx of events in Round Top. The official first day of the show is Thursday, March 14, and it runs through Easter Sunday, March 31. There is a full chart with each merchant’s “open” days located at roundtop.com.

Round Top Family Library 

The library has tons of wonderful opportunities for kids during the week including story time, Junior Master Gardeners, art class, jazz dance class, chess club, and Taekwondo. Email info@ilovetoread.org or call (979) 249-2700.

Honeybees 

RTFL’s FYI presents Bruce Ford Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. Bruce will talk about Honeybees and Agricultural Exemptions. Bruce is a full-time Beekeper and will offer free consulting on native plants and recommended pollinator trees and plants. There will be time for question-andanswer after the talk. This event is free and open to the public.

Winedale 

The next Winedale Online Talk is “Friend or Foe: The Legacy of African Americans in the Texas Revolution.” This online talk will be on Tuesday, March 5 at noon. Email tricia. blakistone@austin.utexas.edu for the link to this zoom talk.

RTC-ISD 

The students will be out for Spring Break Monday, March 11-Friday, March 15. The next School Board meeting is set for Monday, March 25.

Round Top Rifle Hall 

The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Hamburger Socials take place the first, second, and third Mondays of each month, the Hall is open from 5:30-8 p.m. for hamburgers, “The Rooster,” hotdogs, or chilidogs, along with fries or onion rings. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the Round Top Rifle Association.

Fish Fry at the Rifle Hall 

The annual all-you-can-eat fish fry at the Rifle Hall will be Friday, March 8 from 5:308 p.m. Plates are $15. Tickets are available at Round Top Mercantile and Round Top State Bank. Remaining tickets will be available at the door but may sell out – get yours early. Dine-in or take-out.

Festival Hill 

James Dick will be performing a Piano Recital at Festival Hill Saturday, March 9 from 3-4:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased on the Festival Hill website.

Herbal Forum and Plant Sale 

The 29th Annual Herbal Forum and Plant Sale at Festival Hill will be March 15-16. This year’s theme is “Cultivating, Creating and Cooking with Herbs.” The plant sale is Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday’s events includes talks on Yarrow, the Herb of the Year, dyeing with plants, and on pathways for connecting nature with homegrown wellness.

Hermann Sons 

Hermann Sons Life (HSL) held the monthly meeting on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Round Top American Legion with a one hundred-percent officer and committee attendance and a fantastic membership attendance. Linda Mattock called the meeting to order and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. HSL received $100 for meeting the new member goal for 2023. This year’s goal is twelve new members. New transfers include Addison Ullrich, and Troy and Jason Carmean. Linda presented the agent’s report. Correspondence included “Thank You” notes from Hospice and the Ted Stardig family. Melanie Rauch sent “Get Well” cards to Barton Garlin and Floyd Braun. Old business discussions included fundraising and expense savings. Happy Birthday was sung to Linda Mattocks and Valgene Ebner. Ora Lee Levien recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Happy anniversary wishes were sent to Valgene and Carmean Ebner for 54 years, and Douglas and Sedalia Ullrich for 60 years. Attendance prizes were won by Betty Porter, Lila Garlin, LaVerne Albers, Sophie Rauch and Earl Fenske. The next meeting will be April 25, 2024. The serving committee for April, May and June will be Pearlie and Wayner Wagner, La Verne Albers, Margie Stardig, Sedalia Ullrich, Barton and Lila Garlin. A big thank you to Floyd and Jocie Braun, Linda Mattocks, Virgie Hall and JoAnn and Ray Ullrich for the past two delicious dinners.
