Our new City Secretary, Sandee Wilkinson, has resided in New Ulm with her husband Ken for over two years. As a child, Wilkinson spent most of her summers visiting her grandparents Frank and Annie Cernosek in Ammannsville. The property is still familyowned.

The City Secretary performs several duties vital to the daily operations of City Hall and we’re happy to have her here. When asked what she enjoys about her position, Wilkinson explained, “I get to interact with the community and discover what’s happening in town. The duties vary. I align with the mayor and the EDC to prepare the agenda for City Council meetings, transcribe the minutes from those meetings, provide citizens with everything from setting up their water bills and utilities to building permit applications, and I roll and sell garbage bags. The City is currently applying for multiple grant applications and these take a significant amount of time.”

The couple enjoy all the shops and restaurants in town and catch the mayor playing at Joe’s on Friday nights. They attend St. Cecilia’s in Round Top. Ken works on local building and repair projects. Wilkinson earned a BBA from Stephen F. Austin and a certification from a paralegal graduate certificate program at Southwest Texas State.

Read Across America

Jamie Warren, Librarian for FISD, called upon community leaders to read to students in celebration of Read Across America Week last week. “We asked the Mayor, Jamie Moreau, area church leaders, a firefighter and a policeman to read to third and fourth grade students,“ stated Warren. They selected what to read from rec- ommended books.
